Beautiful Brian news & links

Krazy Kevin Lipsitz will be Brian Seiken’s guest for the seventh episode of his television show. The episode is currently in post-production.

Brian has also made a commitment to improve his physique and health. Lets all support him in his efforts to lose weight. He intends to continue in competitive eating.

Seiken has also submitted two links:

  • A show on radio station WFMU from early 2002 about competitive eating with interviews by Richard Shea, Cookie Jarvis and Andrew Goldstein can be obtained at http://www.wfmu.org/listen.php?show=2698
(Real player required) The competitive eating segment begins at 1:04. The show occurred between the Glutton Bowl and the airing of the Gutbuster documentary (it was hoped at the time that the Glutton Bowl would be an annual event.)
  • A blog entry by a Harvard Law student briefly mentions the MTV True Life competitive eating documentary. The author finds the milieu of competitive eating fascinating and hopes to write some personality sketchs of eaters on his blog.

Brian Seiken announces Cookie Jarvis has retired

Brian Seiken reports that Cookie Jarvis has retired from competitive eating and will not attempt to qualify for Nathan’s in 2006. Cookie claims that his retirement is due to being unable to focus on his business ventures while pursuing an eating career. Best of luck to Cookie in his post-gurgitator phase of life.

Updated 3/8/06 9:02 Cookie Jarvis has a statement announcing his retirement on his website. Cookie is starting an advertising agency which will take all of his available time. He will continue to maintain his website which will track his progress in losing weight. (Thanks Pat Bertoletti)

Cookie Jarvis wins Arkansas grilled cheese

The AP has an article (at abcnews.com) about the goldenpalace.com grilled cheese qualifier held Saturday at the Arkansas State Fair. The results of that contest are:

1. Cookie Jarvis, Long Island, NY, 19 sandwiches
2. Pat Philbin, Moonachie, NJ, 17.5 sandwiches
3. Michael Finnell, Sherwood, AR, 11.5 sandwiches (after 1 minute overtime to decide 3rd)
4. Christopher Tarleton, Corpus Christi, TX 10 sandwiches (lost overtime to Finnell)

With 4 qualifiers left, notable eaters who have yet to qualify include Joey Chestnut and Badlands Booker. (Hopefully Carlene LeFevre will recover in time to participate in the Phoenix contest) If Joey Chestnut competes in the Southern California Fair contest to be held Monday, it will be interesting to see if he challenges Tim Janus’ record of 31. (It has been rumored that Kobayashi will appear at the Southern California contest) The article mentions that there will be a finals contest at an undetermined date and time to determine the allocation of the $20,000.

Updated 10/9 3:55 pm The Arkansas Democrat Gazette has an article mentioning the contest.

Cookie Jarvis wins San Gennaro Cannoli contest

(from beautifulbrian.com)

Cookie Jarvis wins the cannoli eating contest Friday in Little Italy, NYC sponsored by the Festival of San Genarro. This is Jarvis’ third win in less than a month. Full results:

  1. 26 Ed “Cookie” Jarvis
  2. 22 Tim “Eater X” Janus
  3. 21 “Crazy Legs” Conti
  4. 18 Big Brian Subich
  5. 11-12 Tim Holden

Eric “Badlands” Booker was present but did not defend his title. There is a rumor that George Shea tried to discourage Jarvis from competing due to his weight. If this is true, it contradicts the assertion by AICE that IFOCE is unconcerned about the health of its heavier eaters.
