Big Al's Kickin Chicken in Saraland, AL will hold a hot wing eating contest ont October 5 awarding $100/$50/$25.
Randy Santel achieved his 900th restaurant challenge victory today at Wacked Out Weiners in Gulf Shores, AL.
Kristen Amy McElhaney ate 223 oysters to break the women's record at Wintzell's Oyster House in Mobile, AL, a mark which had stood for 22 years. The effort raised $5,000 for the Distinguished Young Women program.
MobileBayMag.com has a profile of Ken Orndoff, who has held the house record of 421 oysters at Wintzell's Oyster House in Mobile, AL for over eight years.
The 2015 Wind Creek Throw Down will be held on Saturday. No mention of an eating contest appears on the event website. MLE contests were held at the Atmore, AL casino the previous two years.

Wintzell’s Oyster House is sponsoring the contest. Presumably reversals in tonight’s contest will result in a disqualification unlike in Wintzells house record.

Tim Janus, Sonya Thomas, Adrian Morgan, Erik Denmark, Eric "Badlands" Booker, Michelle "Cardboard Shell" Lesco, Crazy Legs Conti, Nate Biller, Damien Boykin and Matt Raible are expected to compete in the oyster contest at Foodabluza in Atmore, AL Friday.
The Foodabluza facebook announces that Pat Bertoletti and Sonya Thomas will be competing at its eating contests on April 26 and 27 in Altmore, AL and will pay $10,000 to a competitor that defeats them (There is no information about who is eligible to receive the bonus). The festival will also hold oyster and taco contests for amateurs on those days awarding $750 ($500 to the winner).
Registration for the oyster eating contest (April 26) and taco eating contest (April 27) at Foodabluza at Wind Creek Casino & Hotel in Atmore, AL will open today at 4 pm central / 5 eastern on ifoce.com. Both contests will award $5000.
AL.com reports that offensive lineman Robert Leff attempted the Jubilee Challenge, consisting of 7.5 pounds of seafood, at The Complete Angler in Daphne, AL after signing a football scholarship to Auburn.

Man vs. Food Nation Mobile, Alabama episode links

Man vs. Food is reportedly recording in Mobile, Alabama. (video) update Lagniappe Mobile has more information. The challenge restaurant will be Wintzell's Oyster House.
WKRG reports that Ken Orndoff broke a 7 year old record at Wintzell's Oyster House in Mobile, Alabama by eating 421 oysters in an hour. During the attempt, oysters entered his mouth more than 421 times. (See this al.com video for an explanation.)
AL.com has an article and gallery about the eating contest at Wintzell's Oyster House held for competitors in the Junior Miss pageant. Julia Springate of Kentucky won the contest with 74 oysters. Junior Misses from Vermont (59 oysters), Wyoming (55) and Delaware (45) also broke the previous record of 44.
Adrian Morgan's facebook page reports that he is the first person to complete the "Big Pig" sandwich challenge (with a time of 7:35) at Saucy Q Bar B Q in Mobile, Alabama.

Oyster eating contest on the Travel Channel yesterday

AmazingStace reports that last night’s episode of Bizarre Foods on the Travel Channel featured the cuisine of the Gulf Coast. An oyster eating contest at Wintzell’s Oyster House in Mobile, AL appeared in one of the segments. The winner ate 430 oysters in an hour. I will try to catch the episode if it reruns.

Mobile AL Wing Bowl & NE Florida Fair contest

The Krystal finals will not be the only southeastern eating contest to be held later this month:

Other new features at this year’s fair include a pizza-eating contest at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 29.
Five contestants will be drawn at random from those who register to participate between 3 and 4 p.m. The person who eats the most pizza in 10 minutes or finishes four 10-inch pizzas before the 10 minutes is up will be the winner. The champion pizza eater will win $100 and bragging rights for a year. Second- and third-place winners will win $50 and $25 respectively.

But hamburger-eaters still get their day at the fair. The third annual hamburger-eating contest will be 7 p.m. Monday. Five contestants drawn from those who register between 6 and 7 p.m. will vie for a top prize of $100, with the other contestants each winning $25.

Mobile, Alabama Wing Bowl

Wing Bowl II kicks off Saturday in Bienville SquareThe region’s top wing-cooking specialists will be going beak to beak at the Wing Bowl II Chicken Wing Cook-off on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Wing Bowl’s three-minute eating contest, open to anyone 18 or over, has a $500 prize. Entrants must sign up at Wings Sports Grille in Mobile or Daphne before to the event.
