TooJay's held a corned beef contest in Palm Beach Gardens, FL on Saint Patrick's Days from 2010-2012. They will not hold a contest this year but hope to bring the contest back in 2014. If that event's trend in prize money for professionals over the past three years continues (2011: $20,000 | 2012: $10,000 | 2013 $0), then MLE eaters will need to pay $10,000 to compete in 2014.

Registration is currently open on IFOCE.com for the Magnify Credit Union World Ice Cream Eating Championship, to be held at the Florida Ice Cream Festival in Lakeland, FL on April 6. The Ledger announces that Joey Chest is expected to compete.

It is now one month until Saint Patrick's Day, and there has been no official announcement about TooJay's corned beef sandwich eating contest which has taken place in Palm Beach Gardens, FL on March 17 from 2010-2012. Previous years' contests were announced by February 1 (2010 | 2011 | 2012). update In a comment on its facebook page, TooJay's announces they will not hold the contest this year but hope to bring it back in 2014.

Several college football bowls held eating contests as part of their pre-game activities:

  • Rose Bowl (Pasadena, CA) Wisconsin defended their Lawry’s Beef Bowl title by eating a total of 619 pounds of prime rib to defeat Stanford by 17 pounds. Joshua Garnett and Dallas Lewallen of Wisconsin were reportedly the individual winners with 7 24-ounce steaks eaten.
  • Chick-fil-A Bowl (Atlanta) LSU outate Clemson at Sal Grosso’s Brazillian Steakhouse by 624 pounds to 454
  • Music City Bowl (Nashville) NC State outate Vanderbilt by 19 ribs. NC State’s Rogers Clark ate 21 ribs in 2 minutes to win the individual contest.
  • Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl (Tempe, AZ) Michigan State ate an average of 33 wings per player to defeat TCU by a margin of 13. MSU’s Shawn Kamm was the individual winner with 65 wings.
  • Outback Bowl (Tampa) Ashton Tate of South Carolina ate 8 mini key lime pies to defeat Michigan’s Ben Braden by 3 pies.

A MLE chili eating contest will take place in Orlando on February 9. If no additional events are added before that competition, there will be a 17 week gap in the MLE schedule starting with the Toronto poutine eating contest on October 13.

Teddy won first place and a prize of $250 in a Dagwood eating contest held Saturday at Lucky Dill in St. Petersburg, FL. Stephanie Torres was runner up and Craig Reed was 3rd.
