The University of Maryland's competitive eating club team will be leaving the Atlantic Coast Conference to join the Big 10 when the school changes leagues in 2014-15. (The team's facebook page has not been updated since early 2011.) The move could create a competitive eating superconference with Eric Dahl, perhaps the nation's top collegiate competitive eater, already in the Big 10 at the University of Wisconsin.
Patch Ronald won the men's division of the pancake eating contest held this morning at Pete's Grille in Baltimore with a total of 15 pancakes in an hour and Carolyn Bozeman defended her women's title with 10. Both winners received $500. (gallery) update The Baltimore Sun has an article and video.
Patch.com announces that Pete's Grille in Baltimore will hold its annual pancake eating contest for amateurs on November 16. Previous year's contests have awarded $500 to the top male and female.
The Guardian has a preview of Barry Levinson's new movie, The Bay, which opens with a Maryland crab-eating contest where the competitors die from a fish parasite in their food which has mutated to consume human flesh.
Gazette.net has short article on Mike Longo's victory at the qualifier held at the BGR in Bethesda, MD last week. The runner-up, Tiran Hill, was the general manager of the restaurant where the contest took place.

A qualifier for the National Cheeseburger Slider Eating Championship will be held today at BGR in Tampa (female bodybuilder Emery Miller will apparently compete). The date was originally announced as September 28. Additional qualifiers awarding $500 and a trip to the championship in May 2013 will be held tomorrow in Bethesda, MD, Coral Gables, FL, Atlanta and possibly Point Loma, CA.

The Maryland State Fair will hold the Roma Ed Reed Chicken Sausage Eating Contest on Sunday. The winner will receive two club level Ravens tickets, $100 cash and a $100 gift certificate to Michael's Cafe (site of a 2011 choking in a crabcake eating contest which required hospitalization).
Bethesda Now reports that BGR The Burger Joint will hold a slider eating contest in Bethesda, MD on September 18 that will award $500 to the winner and serve as qualifier for a national contest. Four other qualifiers will be held; Sites and dates are not listed. The Washington Post also has a blog entry about the competition which does not provide the location. update Washingtonian reports that 2nd and 3rd places will receive $250 and $100 gift certificates and the national finals will take place on May 28, 2013.

Dave Brunelli won the suicide wing eating contest at The Starboard in Dewey Beach, DE for the third year in a row on Sunday. Johnnie Excel also competed. the women's winner was not named.

Ocean City Today and DelMarVANow.com have previews of the hot dog eating contest to be held July 4 at Fish Tales in Ocean City, MD that will award $1,000 to the winner. Last year's winner, Dave Brunelli, will be competing in the Crif Dog Classic in New York City on July 4.
