Carey Poehlmann wins EATORF Chili Wimpees

The winners page for EATORF has been updated to record Carey “Powerhouse” Poehlmann’s victory in Saturday’s Chili Wimpee contest in Lake Ariel, making him the first victor of an EATORF contest besides Killer K Hill. In an email, Poehlmann praises the contest organizers:

I drove over to Lake Ariel to participate in EATORF’s Chili Whimpee contest, and was very surprised how organized these guys are, how much fun I had participating, and how enjoyable the crowd found it. They are a great group of guys, and think that they deserve some attention for the dedication that they show to the sport of competitive eating.

EATORF.com opens

EATORF.com has opened. They also have a cafepress merchandise page like the UEPa. The home page gives their mission statement:

E.A.T.O.R.F. is here to introduce and celebrate competitive eating on a consistent basis to the good people of NEPA. As one of the fastest growing sports in America, competitive eating offers the average character with a supernatural eating capacity and speed with which he or she eats a chance to shine and show off his or her skills in a way the typical family dinner frowns upon. If you’re one of the gifted then we have a special place for you where you’ll be honored, cheered for, and appreciated. And, if you’re one of the best, you’ll be rewarded with some cash and prizes, too!

Introducing EATORF – another Pennsylvania eating organization

thetimes-tribune.com has an article about the founders of EATORF, who are sponsoring a single cheesesteak eating contest in Throop, PA (greater Scranton) on Monday:

The group is the brainchild of three friends, Justin Leff, of Olyphant, Eric Mina, of Taylor, and Chris Glenn, of Dalton, who were discussing different concepts for a business venture and came up with a competitive eating league that could hold events in bars and other venues.

“Bars and entertainment are synonymous with each other,” Mr. Leff said, citing other entertainment genres like karaoke and trivia nights. And, he added, many taverns have a certain food that they are known for — buffalo wings, for instance, or nachos. “We could come in and promote that item.”

Here is what he and his partners envision: an evening filled with colorful contestants who dream up clever nicknames for themselves and who might partake in a bit of trash talk. Mr. Leff and Mr. Mina will co-host the competition, interviewing the participants before and after, and providing commentary throughout. Mr. Glenn will serve as referee.

“We want to make it as much of a show as possible,” Mr. Leff said.

EATORF contests will focus on speed rather than quantity. For Monday’s cheesesteak event, participation will be limited to the first 20 people who register. There will be 10 heats, in which pairs of people square off against each other. The two fastest qualifiers will then compete in a championship round.
