Amarillo high school tortilla eating contest results in school board meeting
Amarillo.com reports that a tortilla eating contest held at a Amarillo High School pep rally has resulted in a meeting of the Amarillo Independent School District Board of Trustees:
Last week, there was a “fiesta-themed†pep rally at Amarillo High School prior to its football game against Caprock High School, a school with a predominantly Hispanic student body. The rally caused a stir on social media.
At the pep rally there was a tortilla-eating contest, and later that night things escalated on social media, where initial claims were made that students were throwing tortillas at the pep rally as well as at the football game.
It was later determined that no tortillas were actually thrown.
Documentarian Morgan Spurlock (Supersize Me) MCed a rat eating contest at the Fantastic Fest film festival in Austin yesterday to promote his new movie, Rats.
Amarillo.com has a report on the Big Texan's plans to move to a new location in east Amarillo and then build a Branson, MO style "entertainment village" around the new site.

GuideLive has an interview with Alex "Moose" Perez, who replaced Brian Seiken at the bottom spot in the MLE top 50, about competing in the tamale contest in Lewisville, TX Saturday.
A movie titled Puke and Explode, described as "a gala event of competitive eating dedicated to both gastro excess and grotesque edibles as contestants devour the most mortifying morsels imaginable" will debut at the Fantastic Fest in Austin later this month.
Boyert Shooting Center in Katy, TX will hold a hot dog eating contest on September 17 awarding a firearm to the winner.
Multichannel.com reports that the Food Network will produce 6 episodes of Ginormous Food, a program about restaurants' oversized meals starring comedian Josh Denny. The pilot episode featuring San Antonio eateries was televised on July 22.
Las Palapas will hold a burrito eating contest in San Antonio on August 27 awarding $1000/$250/$150. Qualifiers will be held on August 13 and 20.

Pluckers will hold a wing eating contest at the Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Wing Festival on August 21 awarding $1000. Entrants can qualify at Pluckers locations on Wednesday nights.

Vancouver.craigslist.ca has a request for Canadian competitive eaters to compete in the qualifier for Battle of the Big Eaters 4 in Vancouver in September. The selected competitors will face teams from Japan, the USA and another country later in the fall in Dallas. Entrants appearing in the qualifier will receive $200 and those that compete in Dallas will get an additional $500.
Pluckers will hold a Wing Bowl at its Greenville Avenue location in Dallas on June 2 awarding $1000 to the winner. Entrants will need to qualify.
The field for Sunday's gyro eating contest will include all of the MLE top 7 who have competed in 2016: Matt Stonie, Joey Chestnut Miki Sudo, Adrian Morgan and Michelle Lesco. (More entrants)
Molly Schuyler ate 144 enchiladas to win today's eating contest at Enchilada's restaurant in Dallas. The previous contest record was 87.
Joey Chestnut and Matt Stonie are expected to compete at Niko Niko's World Gyro Eating Championship at Greek Fest in Houston May 15. This would be their first meeting since October 3 in Toronto.
