Things did not work out very well for the last person to equate a monkey with a diminutive professional athlete from Washington, DC. After that analogy was made, the 1983-84 Redskins were destroyed in the Super Bowl. Is this an omen for Sonya in the Grilled Cheese Bowl tomorrow? 😉

The new poll question asks what the winning total for Wedensday’s goldenpalace.com grilled cheese final will be. Here are the top results for the previous poll about your favorite eater’s website: All results can be found at http://trencherwomen.com/wp-polls.php
Big Brian Subich -> 20% (22 Votes)
Andrew Skinnyboy Lane’s blog -> 16% (17 Votes) 16%
Beautiful Brian Seiken -> 14% (15 Votes) 14%
Humble Bob Shoudt -> 12% (13 Votes) 12%
Sonya The Black Widow Thomas -> 11% (12 Votes) 11%
Don Moses Lerman -> 7% (8 Votes) 7%
Tim Eater X Janus fan blog -> 6% (6 Votes) 6%
Super Paul Barlow, Jr -> 6% (6 Votes) 6%
I have reason to believe that some people voted twice (or more) so the above results should be considered extremely unscientific. I was highly surprised that Subich had the winning total given that his website does not appear to have been updated in 2006. The goal for the poll was to make people aware of the websites in the competitive eating community rather than provide an accurate determination of the most popular website.
(from Bob Shoudt) In another competitive eating poll, 610wip.com has a poll on its home page in which you can vote for the first member of the Wing Bowl Hall of Fame. The choices are Heavy Kevy, Bill El Wingador Simmons, and “Soyna” Thomas.

The field for Wing Bowl 14 has been set and philly.com has some information on some of the competitors. The only woman competing, Melissa Perzin, has modified Sonya’s nickname and is calling herself “The White Widow.” Joey Chestnut and Rich LeFevre will not be the only entrants travelling a long distance. There will also be an (unnamed) competitor from Red Deer, Alberta, Cananda.
Updated 11:54 Another connection between race and the Wing Bowl besides Melissa’s nickname can be found in this discrimination lawsuit against WIP. I wonder if the lawsuit will use Badlands Booker’s possibly bogus disqualification from Wing Bowl 13 as supporting its claim of bias.

Amazon.com now displays the cover pictures for the two books on competitive eating which will be released in the second quarter of 2006. The covers look quite similar. Amazon also has an excerpt from the first chapter of Ryan Nerz’s book, “Eat This Book”, in which the author describes how he became an MC for IFOCE.
There is a discrepancy between the cover picture and listed title of Jason Fagone’s book. The cover picture has the title “Insatiable Appetites”, but Amazon lists the title as “Horsemen of the Esophagus” (Sonya and Carlene would probably argue that the book ought to be retitled “Horsepersons of the Esophagus”)

With Sonya Thomas apparently having mastered the Barrick/Big Daddy Burger, there is another western megaburger that might provide a more adequate challenge for her. In-n-Out Burger lets customer’s order as many meat patties and slices of cheese on their burgers as they would like. lafoodblogging has information about a 100 (patties) x 100 (cheese slices) colossus. If each pattiie weighs a quarter pound, then that creation contains 25 pounds of meat before cooking.

I have set up a competitive eating database at EatFeats.com The database currently contains all the results I could find starting with the middle of 2005. I intend to expand the database to include earlier contests and restaurant’s “walls of fame” for eating challenges. Users can modify data about an eater or contest but not results. The modifications require approval before appearing in the main database. I hope to allow users to add and modify results soon. I also want to have this blog accessible using the eatfeats.com domain name. Any suggestions on how the database can be improved are welcome.
Updated 1/22 10:00 pm The 2002 pickle contest has been added to the database ahead of schedule due to popular demand.

Thanks Bubba Yarbrough for the results
In a recent comment on her website, Sonya Thomas stated she intends to represent the 3 billion+ women on earth by injecting a more deadly venom into her male prey. Sonya definitely lived up to that claim today at the 9 pound Barrick / Big Daddy burger contest at the Plaza Casino in Las Vegas. Her time of approximately 27 minutes was almost half the 48 minutes she needed to finish last year’s contest (and is similar to her almost doubling her amount in last month’s meatball contest.) Las Vegas residents performed well at the contest, with Rich LeFevre and Ron Koch comprising half the top four.

ojrifkin · More posts about:AICE contests, Clinton Station Diner, Kate Stelnick, Newark
With the Big Daddy burger contest tomorrow, it is an appropriate time to look back on the last megaburger contest, the AICE Zeus burger contest held at the Clinton Station Diner in New Jersey in May. Three person teams were allowed 75 minutes to finish the 12.5 pound sandwich. The only group to beat the deadline, the Tri-State Titans, finished with a time of 71 minutes, consisted of “Gentleman” Joe Menchetti, Arnie “Chowhound” Chapman, and Dominick “The Doginator” Cardo. The Titan’s efforts were almost invalidated by Chowhound’s vomiting soon after he completed the burger.
Kate Stelnick served as celebrity judge, her only involvement in an eating contest. The article does not state if it was her call if Chapman’s “reversal of fortune” occured after an allowable time. That experience might have been distasteful enough for her to withdraw completely from competitive eating. Another possible theory for her absence is suggested by her quote that she won a lot of bets from people who did not think she could finish the 96er burger. She could be winning a lot of money betting people in buffets and wants to keep a low profile so none of her potential victims recognize her (which could be the premise of a possible movie: “Svelte Co-eds Can’t Eat.” 😉 )

This forum thread states that the only member of the Plaza Casino “Wall of Fame” to have completed the 9 pound Barrick/Big Daddy burger as of October 2004 was a slender woman who is apparently not Sonya Thomas. (Since the finisher looks somewhat like Sonya, she is apparently not Carlene LeFevre either.) I would appreciate it if someone going to the contest could verify if this claim is true.
