STBW.com starts commentary page

A page called “Sonya’s View: A Peek Inside the Web” has been started on SonyaTheBlackWidow.com. The initial column concerns Sonya’s relationship with the IFOCE/MLE:

Oftentimes when I visit various competitive eating- (CE-) related Web sites, regarding some of the differences between Major League Eating (MLE) / International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE) and independently affiliated CE organizations, I ask myself where I feel I belong. That question was easily answered in the past, as no organization could have treated me any better than the most highly esteemed IFOCE — and the people in that organization — as they continue to be the best of the best!

Does that mean that there have not been challenges? No, not at all, as is the case with anything in life. But since life is about variety and broadening one’s experiences, I look forward to the possibility of new relationships and new challenges.

Eaters in Record Holders Republic

The Record Holders Republic website describes its purpose as:

Record Holders Republic is devoted to world records, unusual stunts and/or feats. Created by record holders for record holders, it’s goal is to provide a place where other record holders can point to their accomplishment on the world wide web and at the same time display their accomplishment with an attractive Official World Record Certificate.

Record Holders Republic is expanding with new inquiries and submissions on a daily basis. Just recently the International Federation of Competitive Eating (www.ifoce.com) has added their extensive data base of world eating records.

Two competitive eaters appear on the list of top record holders: Peter Dowdeswell with 51 records and Sonya Thomas with 23.

This BBC article says Peter Dowdeswell has raised £4,500,000 (about $9 million ) for charity in his eating career.

Krystal Square Off fantasy leagues

(From truefan) KrystalSquareOff.com will let users compete in fantasy comeptitive eating leagues starting tomorrow. Scoring will be based on both the qualifiers and finals:

Leagues can have a maximum of seven teams but no fewer than four. Once teams have been drafted, owners can drop, add or trade their competitive eaters up until midnight on the day before the regional qualifier final. Eaters cannot be dropped, traded or added once they’ve competed. Points will be accumulated based on the average number of Krystal Hamburgers that each eater consumes in the local qualifier finals and their total at the Krystal Square Off IV World Championship.

Deadspin blogger to attend Nathan’s finals

Will Leitch, the main writer for the sports/athlete gossip blog Deadspin, will attend the Nathan’s finals and post about the contest on Thursday.

In the comments, someone says that the Coors ad starring Kobayashi is now being televised.

While watching the Sopranos edit on A&E last nite, lo and behold–right in the middle of the show, what pops up but a Coors Light commercial starring none other than Kobayashi himself!

I view this as a good omen to his continued mastery of the Nathan’s contest–go, Tsunami, go!
