Beautiful Brian begins blogspot blog
“Beautiful” Brian Seiken has started a blog at http://beautifulbrian978.blogspot.com/
Possible Kobayashi impostor on myspace
A myspace page has been set up at myspace.com/takerukobayashi. It is rather unlikely that this page was set up by the actual Kobayashi given his lack of fluency in English.
The profile lists Kobayashi as a Sagitarius, when Kobayashi was born March 15, 1978.
A myspace page has also been set up at myspace.com/sonyathomas This is listed as a fan page and not Sonya’s personal page, but that disclaimer is not very prominent.
Urban Honking (True Fan) Nathan’s live blog
Liz and Krista are reporting from Coney Island for an Urban Honking liveblog (its times are west coast) Competitive eating coverage has moved from urbanhonking.com/digest to urbanhonking.com/truefan as announced.
I will be liveblogging (teleblogging?) the ESPN coverage in about 15 minutes.
Brian Seiken resumes blogging
“Beautiful” Brian Seiken has resumed blogging at http://hometown.aol.com/beautifulbrian43/bulletin.html
Seiken has discovered a video of a woman on the Maury Povich show who is afraid of pickles. Perhaps some eaters scarred by the Carnegie Deli pickle contest share her phobia.
Beautiful Brian karma
Eaters interested in qualifying for the 2007 Nathans’ finals should definitely consider appearing on Brian Seiken’s video podcast to boost their chances. 6 primary guests attempted qualification and 4 succeeded, including first-timers Pat Bertoletti and Brian Subich. Here is the list of interviewees:
#1: Ed “Cookie” Jarvis – did not attempt to qualify
#2: Ray “The Bison” Meduna – did not attempt to qualify
#3: Pat Bertoletti – qualified
#4: Allen “Shredder” Goldstein – qualified
#5: Don “Moses” Lerman – failied to qualify
#6: Charles Hardy – did not attempt to qualify
#7: Kevin Lipsitz – did not attempt to qualify

Competitive eating to move to Urban Honking sports blog
Kobayashi starts blogging
Kobayashi has started his blog with two entries. One is a report from the Nathan’s Tokyo qualifier, the other announces that he will appear on a baseball card.
takeru-kobayashi.com opens
Takeru Kobayashi has opened a web site at takeru-kobayashi.com (Translated version) The site has a blog, but no entries have been added to it. Kobayashi lists his current weight at 75kg (165 lb), about the same weight he received a major scare from Joey Chestnut at the Krystal finals last November.
Russell “the Black Hole” Blackwell starts a blog
Russell “the Black Hole” Blackwell, third place finisher in last Saturday’s Tempe Nathan’s qualifier, has started a blog at http://russellblackwell.blogspot.com/
Tomoko Miyake launches personal web site
Tomoko Miyake (三宅智å), the fourth place finisher in April’s “gluttonous queen” contest has launched a personal website at miyaketomoko.com , making her the first Japanese female competitive eater with a home page. The website lists Tomoko’s birth year as 1958 (the last two digits should probably be reversed)
New Nathan’s qualifier & IFOCE websites
A Nathan’s qualifier will be held on June 22 in West Chester, PA (suburban Philadelphia). The qualifier will be televised on the shopping channel QVC, making it the first qualifier broadcast nationwide. It will be interesting to see what merchandise is sold during this appearance.
IFOCE has announced two new websites, competitiveeatingevents.com and competitiveeating.net in conjunction with the new qualifier. The first website has travel information for IFOCE contests. competitiveeating.net has a list of the websites of some IFOCE members in which the home pages of Sonya Thomas, Erik Denmark, Andrew Lane and Brian Seiken along with the Whaler’s fan blog for Tim Janus are not found. The list claims to only include “family friendly” websites which might be the reason why the last two of those web sites were omitted, but I have never seen anything on the first three home pages that was not G-rated. Brian Subich’s home page appears despite not having been updated since 2005 when I last viewed it.
The Future (of Eating) is here
Loren Yarbrough has noticed that Joey Chestnut’s home page located at futureofeating.com has opened with a lot of pictures from Wing Bowl 14.
Shirota’s 2004 Nathan’s gallery

(Thanks Loren Yarbrough) A Japanese competitive eating website has been set up at http://www.d2.dion.ne.jp/~193cm/ which has galleries of Nobuyuki “The Giant” Shirota at the 2004 Nathan’s finals and Tokyo qualifier.
BB TV 10 : Eats of Strength Recap
Brian Seiken has uploaded his tenth video focusing on the Eats of Strength filming session. He does not have an official interviewee, but Crazy Legs Conti, Pat Bertoletti, Tim Janus and Don Lerman all make cameo appearances.
“Gal” Natsuko Sone fan blog
The No Name Ninja has started a fan blog for “Gal” Natsuko Sone at http://galsonelovery.blog.shinobi.jp/ (in Japanese)
BB TV #9: Big Brian Subich
The 9th episode of Brian Seiken’s television series, featuring “Big” Brian Subich, is now available at beautifulbrian.com. The website also has an account of Ryan Nerz’s book signing last week and a message from Cookie Jarvis claiming that Joe LaRue’s sweet corn record set last Sunday was not judged properly.
Liz is relocating
Liz of Urban Honking’s Digest has moved her personal blog from blogspot to http://www.urbanhonking.com/liz/
speedeat.com returns
speedeat.com has been updated after a one month hiatus. “Gentleman” Joe Menchetti downplays (but does not explicitly deny) reports that he has returned to AICE and says he does not intend to compete in an AICE event before the pickle contest on May 24. However, all the AICE contests in which he is listed as an expected entrant on the AICE news page are after that date.
Cluckbucket’s list of wing eating techniques
If you are curious how Eric “Badlands” Booker managed to upset Sonya Thomas at the Buffalo Wing Festival last year, cluckbucket.com has detailed information on his personal wing eating technique along with over a dozen other wing eating styles.
X Rated TV on beautifulbrian.com
The eigth episode of Brian Seiken’s TV show, featuring Tim Janus, is now available. “Eater X” appears in studio and phone calls from the audience are taken for the first time. Janus offers information about the conflict with Dale Boone at the US Open and says that MTV is producing a sequel to its documentary about competitive eaters. A commercial of Badlands Booker at IHOP (which had virtually no audio on my computer) and a phone interview with Brian’s nephew who is a star of an MTV2 show are also displayed.
Love Ahoy & IFOCE map
Liz K attended Love Ahoy (a live “Dating Game” parody) last night which featured a hot dog contest overseen by Crazy Legs Conti and has a writeup on her blog. Eaters were judged by style and not speed or amount.
Liz also emailed me that urban honking has a map of the country with all the upcoming IFOCE contests using the platial.com website.
Myspace impostors
There is an Eater X page on myspace listing his home state as Alabama and his height as 6’1″, facts which are not found on myspace.com/eaterx There is also a myspace.com/joeychestnut, but this page does not appear to be impersonating the San Jose State student.
Philly.com reports that Wing Bowl creator Angelo Cataldi was also a victim of a myspace impersonator.
