Third Battle of the Bone (Phoenix area) announced

A press release announces the 2010 Battle of the Bone. Weekly qualifiers will be held in Phoenix-area Native New Yorker restaurants starting March 3 in Tempe. The finals will take place on August 21 and award a motorcycle valued at approximately $10,000. The contest is restricted to amateurs.

The East Valley Tribune has a blog entry about the "Ultimate Jewish Slider Challenge" offered by Chompie's, a Phoenix-area deli. No diner has successfully completed the challenge. According to the menu, a Jewish slider consists of a mini challah roll filled with moist lean brisket, mini potato pancakes and Jack cheese.

New Travel Channel companion series to Man vs. Food

TucsonCitizen has information about a new Travel Channel program that will record on January 29 & 30:

There is now a new series in the works that will be a companion to Man V Food, and they are coming to Tucson to prove if El Guero Canelo really does have the best Sonoran dog in Tucson.

They are welcoming fans to the shoots where they will conduct interviews and then feature the ultimate Superfan on the show. They will also be pitting El Guero Canelo Vs a challenger.

Youtube has a video of the slider eating contest held at the Chicago Hamburger Company (of Phoenix). The caption reports that Jed Donahue claimed victory after eating 10 sliders in 2:15, faster than the five minutes reported in an ABC15 article.
AZstarnet has an article about Tuscon High offensive lineman Ben Cannon, who reportedly ate the Quadruple Bypass Burger from the Heart Attack Grill in about three minutes.

Full results for Saturday's finals of the Battle of the Bone wing eating contest have been posted. Tom Gilbert is not listed, but Chillin Peng (#2), Gus Beisel (#3) and David Cohn (#8) were allowed to compete even though they have competed in IFOCE contests.

Thomas Gilbert sets Battle of the Bone record

The Battle of the Bone website reports that Thomas Gilbert set a record at Wednesday’s qualifier in Anthem, Arizona by eating 3 pounds and 5 ounces of wings, defeating 2008 Nathan’s Arizona Mills qualifier runner-up David Cohn by over a pound. It is not clear from the website pictures if Thomas Gilbert is Tom “Goose” Gilbert. The contest rules ban professional eaters and former or current members of Major League Eating.

The Heart Attack Grill has started a twitter at http://twitter.com/DoubleBypass Recent posts report a 350+ pound diner received seven free Single Bypass Burgers in one visit, that no 350+ pound woman (as of June 12) had accepted the free food offer and that one diner ate 2 Quadruple Bypass burgers in 45 minutes.
