A six person team including Jamie McDonald, Naader Reda, Kevin Ross and Damon Wells will attempt the 54 inch pizza challenge at Big Mama's & Papa's Pizzeria in Burbank, CA on January 13. Big Mama's & Papa's has also started a blog about its pizza challenge at http://bigmamaspizzablog.com/ update Jan 14 The team did not complete the pizza.
On Saturday, Fat Sal's Deli in Los Angeles will unveil the "Fat Jamie", a sandwich designed by Jamie McDonald, who finished the "Big Fat Fatty" challenge last year. Deli co-owner Jerry Ferrara ("Turtle" on Entourage) hopes to attend. update Jan 8 Jamie will be taking on 3 person teams in a "Big Fat Fatty" sandwich eating contest on Saturday.
2012-13 college football bowl eating contests
Several college football bowls held eating contests as part of their pre-game activities:
- Rose Bowl (Pasadena, CA) Wisconsin defended their Lawry’s Beef Bowl title by eating a total of 619 pounds of prime rib to defeat Stanford by 17 pounds. Joshua Garnett and Dallas Lewallen of Wisconsin were reportedly the individual winners with 7 24-ounce steaks eaten.
- Chick-fil-A Bowl (Atlanta) LSU outate Clemson at Sal Grosso’s Brazillian Steakhouse by 624 pounds to 454
- Music City Bowl (Nashville) NC State outate Vanderbilt by 19 ribs. NC State’s Rogers Clark ate 21 ribs in 2 minutes to win the individual contest.
- Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl (Tempe, AZ) Michigan State ate an average of 33 wings per player to defeat TCU by a margin of 13. MSU’s Shawn Kamm was the individual winner with 65 wings.
- Outback Bowl (Tampa) Ashton Tate of South Carolina ate 8 mini key lime pies to defeat Michigan’s Ben Braden by 3 pies.
The owners of Hillbilly Hot Dogs in Huntington, CA will renew their wedding vows in a ceremony on December 12 in Valencia, CA that will feature a "Homewrecker" hot dog eating contest.
The Pasadena Star News reports that former Cincinnati Reds pitcher Frank Pastore, record holder for the Big Texan 72 ounce steak from 1987 to 2008, remains in a coma after a motorcycle accident on November 19 in Duarte, California.
Damon Wells has produced a video of him competing with Naader Reda against a time of four amateurs in a 36 inch pizza contest at Big Mama's & Papa's.
The Los Angeles Brewing Company will hold a hot wing eating contest next week awarding $300 to the winner.

Madame Tussaud's wax museum in Hollywood will hold a peanut butter & banana sandwich eating contest tomorrow morning awarding $500 to the winner. update Oct 17 The contest will be part of the unveiling of the new Elvis figure. update Oct 17 #2 J. Wednesday, Jamie McDonald and Naader Reda did the double challenge consisting of 12 sandwiches and two jumbo bowls at Mix n' Munch Cereal and Grilled Cheese Cafe in South Pasadena, CA. Later that evening, Jamie McDonald became the first person to finish the sandwich challenge (seen on "Suzilla") at Fat Sal's Deli in Los Angeles (video).
Eating contests held throughout football season
Several restaurants are holding eating contests that will take place throught football season:
- Battle of the Bone 5 – Phoenix area Native New Yorker restaurants – qualifiers will take place on Wednesdays throughout football season – finals December 8 will award a trip to the Super Bowl
- Court Jester’s – Aberdeen & Freehold, NJ – Weekly hot wing eating qualifiers during Monday Night Football – finals during Super Bowl will award $1750 ($1000 to winner)
- Smoke City Market – Sherman Oaks, CA qualify for Jan 27 contest by eating rack of ribs
- Two Stones Pub – Newark, DE – 10 patrons who eat most foot long hot dogs will get a spot in a Super Bowl party
- The Whiskey Barrel – Gloucester City, NJ – weekly hot dog eating qualifiers will be held during Monday Night Football, final will be held during Super Bowl
A spicy tofu eating contest awarding an iPad will be held at A Taste of Koreatown in Los Angeles on September 8.

Joey Chestnut and Juliet Lee have been added to the roster for the Day-Lee Foods World Gyoza Eating Championship in Los Angeles on August 18.
Day-Lee Foods facebook has a list of the expected entrants in the World Gyoza Eating Championship.
Registration for the gyoza eating contest to be held August 18 at the Nisei Week Festival in Los Angeles opens today at 3 pm Pacific (6 pm eastern) on ifoce.com. The contest will have a cash purse of $5500 and award $2000 along with a Malaysia Airlines business class flight to Japan to the winner.
