IFOCE Maine burrito contest Sept 22
A burrito eating contest will be sponsored by Costa Vida Big Kahuna Burritos in South Portland, Maine on September 22. Registration opens August 9.
Wisconsin Frog Legs preview
Madison.com has a preview of the frog legs contest to be held before the Madison Mallards minor league baseball game Monday. The game will be against the Green Bay Bullfrogs. Three out of state eaters are expected:
* Ian “The Invader” Hickman of Virginia, who has eaten 4.78 pounds of fried zucchini in eight minutes.
* “Gentleman Joe” Menchetti of Connecticut, whose world records include pumpkin pie (5.89 pounds in five minutes) and Cajun-fried cicadas (89 in one minute).
* Mark “The Human Vacuum” Lyle of Ohio, who has eaten 8.3 pounds of chili in five minutes, also a world record.

Brat Days amateur contest article
The Sheboygan Press has an article about the amateur bratwurst contest to be held at the Brat Days festival this weekend which includes the following quotes on the cancellation of the IFOCE contest:
Officials at Johnsonville Sausage, which sponsors the brat-eating contest and the festival itself, declined to comment Tuesday.
Johnsonville dropped the event as part of a public relations “strategy shift,” Johnsonville Marketing Manager Cory Bouck said early in July. The contest “wasn’t the exact message we want to get out,” he said.

County Fair to have human vs. bear pizza eating contest
Cincinnati.com reports that the Hamilton County Fair will have an inter-species competition:
Then there’s the daily pizza-eating contest. Fairgoers go bite for bite with a bear. The winner gets $100. The bear, Ingle warns, “has only lost once.” No word on how the bear plans to spend the 100 bucks.

Returning to this year’s Cook-off, the International Federation of Competitive Eating (IFOCE), the governing body of all stomach-centric sports, will host the second Best in the West Nugget World Rib Eating Championships on Wednesday, August 29. The country’s best competitive eaters will vie for $5,000 and the title of World Champion. The IFOCE conducts more than 90 events annually, including the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, NY. It’s estimated the top competitors will consume eight to nine pounds of meat during the 12-minute competition. Last year’s winner, prolific gurgitator Joey Chestnut, is expected to attend, along with more than one dozen other top-flight athletes. The rib eating contest will take place in front of the main stage starting around 5 p.m.

BostonNow – pro-am AICE sausage contest Friday
BostonNow.com reports that there will be another sausage contest at the Boston Italian Festival in addition to the main sausage contest on Saturday:
On Friday there will be a World Sausage Eating Contest that pairs professional eaters with local celebrities fighting it out for the title of champion. More than 150 pounds of sausage will be devoured, with each contestant responsible for one to four pounds or up to 16 12-inch links.
“We receive a lot of exposure from it, and it has become a highlight of the festival,” says Capogreco. “We’re drawing a lot of competitive eaters, too, such as Tom “The Goose” Gilbert, Ian “The Invader” Hickman and Joshua “The Lumberjack” Hearne.”

IFOCE Chicago jalapeño eating contest Sept 16
La Costeña will sponsor the “Feel the Heat” Jalapeño Eating Challenge to be held in Chicago on September 16. Registration will open August 1.
Regarding other possible IFOCE September events, it is not clear if the Buffalo Wing Festival will retain its IFOCE affiliation. Registration for the buffet bowl contest does not appear to be handled by IFOCE, and the page for the wing contest brings up an error.
Three Brothers Pizza registration opens tomorrow
Registration for the second Three Brothers Pizza contest will open on July 13 at noon eastern. The contest will take place on August 18 in Greenbelt, Maryland. There will also be an amateur contest.
Another August IFOCE contest will take place at the Ash Creek Saloon Rib Eating Contest. Joey Chestnut is expected to defend his title. Former WWF/WWE wrestler King Kong Bundy will act as celebrity judge.
Queens, NY dumpling contest August 5

So it’s only in the interest of each borough having its own event that we bring you this next story- the 4th Annual Dumpling Eating Contest, taking place on Sunday August 5th as part of the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival in Flushing. For all of those who watched Joey Chestnut eat 66 weenies last week and exclaimed, “Hell, I can do that,†here’s your chance: the Dumpling Eating Contest is accepting registrants until the end of the month.
The contest is two minutes long with prizes of $1000, $500 and $300. Last year’s festival had separate contests for men and women with equivalent prize money for both genders.
