IFOCE “Stand By Me” pie contest registrations opens today
From IFOCE.com:
On July 28, the nation’s top Major League Eaters will converge on the small hamlet of Brownsville, Oregon to recreate one of the most iconic moments in both film and competitive eating history.
STAND BY ME was filmed in Brownsville and was released in 1986. For the first time, the IFOCE will sanction a hands-free pie eating contest as a tribute to the movie that helped bring competitive eating into the spotlight.
Registration for this contest will open at 12:00pm on Friday, June 15.
I think this is the first handsless contest IFOCE has sanctioned. The only contests listed in July on the IFOCE calendar are in Oregon.

AICE Backyard Burger contest announced
The announcement for the new AICE Backyard Burgers contest refers to another burger contest held in Tennessee:
Some folks may find it cute to eat a 2 oz hamburger. Those same people might also try and justify dropping their mini-burger in water and then actually it eat! (Pretty scary, huh?) Other folks, such as competitive eaters, Backyard Burger Inc., and the league of Real Food Eaters of America, believe that the words ” 2 oz”. And “hamburger” should never occupy the same sentence. It is this belief and conviction that Back Yard Burger and All PRO EATING PROMOTIONS announce their 2007 summer campaign against the epidemic of “Miniburgitis.” Unfortunately, a few misguided souls have been mislead into believing that a hamburger should fit in the palm of their hand. The southern United States has a reputation for eating their hamburgers with both hands because the big, juicy, delicious hamburger they are eating requires it!
There will be four qualifiers with the finals occurring on September 8 in Memphis, TN. Entrants are limited to one previous eating contest. Hopefully the mystery Memphis burger girl will compete.
More on the London breakfast championship
The Sun reports that spaces are still available in the breakfast eating championship which will be held in London, England on Tuesday. The contest will last 12 minutes and 35 seconds, which is claimed to be the average breakfast time. Sun employee, Lup Fun Yau, recognized by Guinness as the record holder for jam doughnuts, will participate.
The winner is the person who devours the most breakfast trays in the time allowed, each of which contains a mammoth 1,300 calories.
It contains 1 sausage; 1 fried egg; 1 rasher bacon; 1 tomato; 1 tbsp baked beans; 1 slice white toast with butter; 1 bowl Cornflakes with 200ml milk; 1 pot organic strawberry yoghurt; 1 croissant; 1 blueberry muffin.
And if you’re out in front, you’ll walk away (or maybe waddle away) with a £500 prize and the title of Britain’s Best Biggest Breakfast Eater.
To take part, call 08701 977346 and leave your details.
