1999 / 2000 TV Champion eating contest videos
sahimoto51177115 has some videos from an eating contest on a TV Champion episode from 1999 or 2000. The contest might have served as the Japanese qualifier for the 2000 Nathan’s finals. The three Japanese to compete in Coney Island in 2000 appear in this program: Kaz Arai (32 on bib), Misao Fujita (46 on bib) and Takako Akasaka (44 on bib), the holder of the pre-Sonya Thomas Nathan’s record. DVDs of the 2005 Gluttonous King and 2006 Gluttonous Queen contests are now on sale.
TV Tokyo's website has a page for Sunday's Gluttonous Queen program featuring Hatsuyo "the Witch" Sugawara and Ayari Sato. Tomoko Miyake will also compete after a 3 year absence from Gluttonous King / Queen contests.
A web page has been set up to promote TV Tokyo's broadcast of a qualifier for the 2010 "Gluttonous Queen" contest on January 1.

Hatsuyo Sugawara's victory in the Morioka wanko soba noodle eating contest was mentioned in the "What's Up With Japan" segment of the G4 Network's Attack of the Show
Keizei.biz reports that Hatsuyo "The Witch" Sugawara won the Morioka wanko soba noodle eating contest for the third year in a row by eating 399 bowls in 10 minutes. update Japan Times has an English article about the contest.
Kobayashi eats 387 bowls of noodles in 2001 contest
Another contest from the 2001 Japanese Nathan’s qualifier is available on youtube. In this competition, Takeru Kobayashi eats 387 small bowls of noodles weighing 9.67 kg (21.3 pounds) to win. The noodle servers, who refill the bowl immediately after it is emptied, are almost as impressive as the eaters.
Kobyashi vs. sushi-maker for 2001 Nathan’s spot
Youtube has a video of a sushi-eating contest won by Takeru Kobayshi from a 2001 episode of TV Champion. Sushi makers assembled new sushi while the competitors ate the existing sushi. The contest awarded a spot in the 2001 Nathan’s finals. Kaz Arai, who had already received a spot in the 2001 Nathan’s finals as the defending champion, oversees the contest.
TV Tokyo's website now shows the finalists for today's "Gluttonous King" contest. Only one of the entrantsfor "Gluttonous King" is male. I think Essen (#6) is the only finalist to have competed in previous "Gluttounous King / Queen" contests.

A video clip of a 40 piece sushi sprint from an episode of Food Battle Club has been uploaded to youtube. Takeru Kobayashi (with blond hair) and Nobuyuki "the Giant" Shirota are two of the participants.
Sugawara repeats as Gluttonous Queen
R Suzuki has a writeups of today’s Gluttonous Queen program on her blog. Hatsuyo “The Witch Sugawara” repeated as champion. Natsuko “Gal” Sone was fifth. The final rounds were held in Australia after taking place in Hawaii in previous years.
JapanToday reports that an entrant in a ramen noodle eating contest was arrested for stealing a rice ball from a convenience store after the competition.
