Leah Shutkever posted a video of her finishing the Tombstone Challenge at Chimichanga in 5:54 which the UK chain announced was a national record. Her time was about a third of the the 17:30 needed for former Sutton United goalie Wayne Shaw to complete the meal.

Wayne Shaw, former backup goalie for Sutton United, did the Tombstone BBQ challenge at Chimichanga in 17:30 and has challenged diners to beat his time. The 280 pound 45 year old lost his position with the club after eating a pie on the sidelines in the FA Cup game versus Arsenal.

Atlas Obscura has a post about Nicholas Wood, known as “The Great Eater of Kent”, titled “Competitive Eating Was Even More Disgusting in the 17th Century”

Taylor’s plan would have had Wood perform daily feats of overeating at the city’s Bear Gardens, which at the time hosted animal fights. Among the suggested meals to give the “most exorbitant paunchmonger” were a wheelbarrow full of tripe, as many puddings as would stretch across the Thames, and an entire fat calf or sheep.

For better or worse, this gluttony exhibition never came to pass, as Wood, who was getting on in his years, and who had lost all but one of his teeth after eating an entire mutton shoulder, bones and all, declined Taylor’s offer, saying that he wasn’t sure he’d be able to perform to expectations.

Martin Appleton-Clare ate a meat and potato pie in 45.5 seconds at Harry's Bar in Wigan, England yesterday to defend his title in the "World Pie Eating Championships". This is his third victory overall. Vocativ has a video of a pie ascending 19 miles high via weather balloon to promote the contest.

The BBC reports that a pie that ascended to 100,000 feet after being attached to a weather balloon will be used in The World Pie Eating Championships in Wigan, England on December 20. The goal of the flight was to determine how high altitude affects the molecular structure of the pie and makes it easier to eat.
