Northern Virginia Magazine has the most in-depth article about Sonya Thomas seen in quite some time (via Washington Post State of NoVa blog) Some observations from the article:
- Sonya declines discussion about a possible marriage to a Mr. Thomas.
- She says that she has to pay her own travel expenses including a trip to New York City for the Nathan’s finals in 2011 which consumed most of her $10,000 prize. (Travel expenses for finalists are supposedly paid by Nathan’s)
- The Jacksonville, AR Wing Ding is listed as a possible future contest site, but the entire festival was cancelled.
- The article includes a behind the scenes look at Ben’s Chili Bowl contest held in October
