NJ.com reports that Dave Wittenburg ate 96 oysters in 2 minutes to win the Princeton Oyster Bowl for the third year in a row and donated his prize of a trip for two to the Dominican Republic to a breast cancer survivor. Theza Friedman was the runner up with 82 oysters.

The contest will award a Caribbean trip to the overall winner on Sunday. Dave "US Male" Goldstein is listed as a 3.5- 1 underdog for the contest.

WCBSTV reports that Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan encouraged Eliot Spitzer to enter a spaghetti eating contest when they were students at Princeton. The former New York governor appeared on the front page of the student paper after he ate 7 bowls of pasta. (It is not stated if Ms. Kagan participated in the contest.)

The 2010 Princeton Oyster Bowl will take place on February 7, 2010 (Super Bowl Sunday) and award a trip for two to Punta Cana or Cancun. (I have not seen any news about the 2010 Wing Bowl; Angelo Cataldi has not updated his blog in almost two months.)

New baseball burger challenges

BottomLineSox announces that the 1 pound 9 ounce McGreevy’s Beckett Burger will debut at McGreevy’s this afternoon. Josh Beckett will be present at the restaurant until 3 pm today and award Red Sox tickets. The burger weight was selected to honor of Josh Beckett’s #19 uniform number. The burger price is $30 and a portion of the cost will go to the Josh Beckett Foundation. All purchasers will receive one of two T shirts which will announce whether they succeeded or failed in the challenge.

The Trenton Thunder have also started the Thunder Burger Challenge which consists of three grilled cheese sandwiches separated by half pound burger patties. The burger is free if it is finished in under 30 minutes and all finishers will be invited to a contest on August 28. (Will this bring central New Jersey’s most famous burger eater out of retirement?)

Oyster Bowl X results

Results from last Sunday’s Oyster Bowl contest have been posted to the contest website.

Chris Stevens set a record by eating 102 oysters in 2 minutes and Oyster Bow IX winner Jayson Taylor was the runner up with 96. Theza Friedman was the women’s winner with 96. Additional results have been entered in the eatfeats database.
