The AICE news page says that the producers of “Supernanny” are developing a program about people more than 50 pounds overweight transforming their physiques and lives.
The home page for the new program can be found at http://www.ricochettelevision.com/newprograms/
Auditions will be held around the country over the next several weeks. The page above says that entrants should be able to spend up to 10 weeks away from their job and family, which is not mentioned on the AICE page. The winner will receive a cash prize, but no amount is listed.

Philly.com has an article mentioning an eating contest held in Burlington, New Jersey a century ago:
A friend, doing research for a book, was browsing through microfilm in the Lehigh University library last week when he found an item headlined “Man Eats 33 Sandwiches.”
The story was from the South Bethlehem Globe of Dec. 9, 1907, and was datelined Burlington, N.J.
Arthur Wilcox (it said) of Burlington ate 33 ham sandwiches, four dozen small pickles, and two pounds of cheese during an eating match in which he was pitted against a man from Delanco. He washed the grub down with 12 cups of coffee.

What do you say to people who think it’s a joke – nothing more than a drunken Bacchanal?
It’s a serious contest. A title and a car. Go to a football game and there are half-naked girls there. It’s a serious competition and we’re there to support them. These guys take a lot of time preparing and promoting.

(Thanks Liz) Liz has written a post for urbanhonking/truefan about eating challenges and the IFOCE ban on those smorgasborgs. Liz relays the following offer from Heart Attack Grill owner “Dr.” John Basso:
Basso is offering the $10,000 dollars for the person who can beat Joey’s time, he says, because he knows he’ll see $11,000 in business as a result. His dream right now is to have Kobayashi, the world’s #1 ranked eater, come in and claim that money. He says after Joey did the stunt, he had someone teach him the correct Japanese phrasing in the hopes that the Kobayashi would hear the challenge he broadcast over the television. “And if someone can beat Kobayashi’s time, I’ll give them $12,000,” he said. Though for now, that challenge will have to be put on the shelf.

The most convincing evidence that Kate Stelnick did finish the 96er burger in under three hours without assistance is probably found in this fark forum thread in which RSquared18 posts several times. Rsquared18 was a member of Kate’s travel part to Denny’s and the photographer of her eating the giant burger. Rsquared18 says that Kate needed 2:53 to finish the burger, one minute shorter than the official time.

Some eaters who competed in that event, (or attempted to enter and were prohibited) might dispute that claim. 3,000 people are claimed to have competed in the first round.
