Wired.com has a good introduction to Natsuko “Gal” Sone. I believe this is the first article about “Gal” Sone in a major US website or publication.
While others — like reigning Coney Island hot-dog-eating champ Kobayashi — furiously gulp down their meals with water, Sone displays a calm nonchalance even in the middle of a race.
A certified chef, she appears to savor each bite she takes, even when she’s already taken a couple hundred of them. At a women-only contest in Okinawa last year, Sone was seen reapplying her makeup after finishing first, even as the clock was still ticking.
from JMGroupPrinceton.com:
Kristina Costa, 82 oysters in 2 minutes, women’s & overall winner, repeat winner
Dan Schwartzmann, 76 oysters in 2 minutes, men’s winner

The Memphis Flyer reports that Pat Bertoletti was the first person to finish the 7 pound (4 lb of meat) Sasquatch burger at the Big Foot Lodge in Memphis. Pat stopped at the Big Foot Lodge on his way to New Orleans to break the Acme Oyster House record and his time of 11:05 is less than 1/5 of the hour allowed.
The burger in the “Big Burger Girl” picture (from a July post) is most likely a Sasquatch burger because the picture is tagged with “Memphis” The photographer claims the unknown trencherwomen finished her burger in the picture comments, but this would not count because it took place outside the restaurant.
Several women who have had success in independent contests and/or restaurants eating challenges have never entered an IFOCE or AICE contest. The new poll asks which woman below would you most like to see enter a sanctioned contest:
“Nurse” Caterina, Heart Attack Grill quadruple bypass burger
Kristina Costa, Oyster Bowl
Balinda Gould, Rockford Corner Bar, chili dogs
Christina Gumola, Roethlisburger radio contest
Keighrah 24 wings in 45 seconds on youtube
Margaret Rappart, spoonbread (on MTV’s True Life)
Gretchen Salyer, Garlicky Greens winner
Kate Stelnick, Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub 11 pound burger finisher
Amy Walter, Frank’s Red Hot wings contest
Lori Weiss, Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub
(from AICE news) National Hard Boiled Egg Eating Championship, Marina Grille, Brick, NJ
1. Goose Gilbert, 46 eggs
2. Mark Lyle, 42 eggs
3. Joe Menchetti, 41 eggs
Mark Lyle believes that his plate had 35 eggs when it should have had 25 and that his actual result is 10 more than his listed result.
Rio Wraps Burrito Bowl, Dearborn MI, gallery
1. Justin Swarbrick, 4 burritos in under 10 minutes
Oyster Bowl VIII, Princeton, NJ
no official results yet, but Joe Menchetti says that last year’s winner, Kristina Costa, repeated with 82 oysters in 2 minutes.
(Women’s) Wing Fling III
no official results yet, but a competitor says the winner ate 25 in 15 minutes, one more than Keighrah ate in 45 seconds in this youtube video.

Angelo Cataldi has his thoughts about Wing Bowl 15 on his blog:
The dramatic announcement at the end of Wing Bowl 15 that El Wingador is coming out of retirement to face Chestnut next year will make it the most anticipated Wing Bowl ever. Between them, El Wingador and Joey Chestnut have won seven out of the last nine Wing Bowls, but they have never faced each other. In fact, Chestnut said he would not have returned unless he got a shot at the all-time Philadelphia champion in 2008.
The Whaler has his first new entry in over two months. The topic is Eater X’s performance in the Miami Pretzel Twister contest:
As the contest began and the eaters dug in, Eater X took a curious tack: he untied each of his pretzels, wasting precious time. And when the dust had settled and the food had been chewed and all the pretzels counted, Eater X had finished a distant second to the winner, Joey Chestnut. It broke my heart, it turned me red and made me want to break things.
Steakbellie has uploaded the first post in a planned series about his Wing Bowl 15 experience. A picture of his float (above) is included.
There is at least one instance of dog food eating predating Don “Moses” Lerman’s Wing Bowl qualifying stunt. It was in one of the episodes of the second season of the 1970s sitcom “Good Times”
In one of the second season’s comic centerpieces, the Evans family avoids eating a neighbor’s meatloaf because they think it’s made with dog food. The scene is played as hilarious farce, but the acknowledgment of a poor old woman living on dog food gives the sequence an underlying bite.
MosesNews.com has a post about the dog food controversy
philly.com has an article with a quote from Joey Chestnut about Bill “El Wingador” Simmons’ return:
“I hope he improves. I would hate to embarrass him in his hometown,” Chestnut told us Friday about Simmons. Chestnut set a Wing Bowl record Friday of 182 wings, besting the contest’s previous record, 173, which he also set.
A member of Crazy Legs Conti’s Wing Bowl entourage wrote a livejournal entry about her night and morning.
Philly.com reports that former Phillies reliever Mitch William’s car suffered the same fate as the Phillies 9th inning lead in game 6 of the 1993 World Series:
Waiting on a friend, he pulled his ’06 Chrysler 300 into a parking spot. Soon, “I smelled something kind of burning in my car,” Williams says. “I got out, finally, and saw smoke. I was trying to get the hood open, and I couldn’t get it open, and I looked underneath.”
Someone had left a barbecue grill smoldering in the lot, and it ignited the car’s engine.
A video of Crazy Legs Conti and Tim “Eater X” Janus sampling different kinds of dog food has been posted to youtube at http://youtube.com/watch?v=wQRJ8i2oypQThey also taste wines to determine which type of wine goes best with dog food.

NorthJersey.com has an article about Pat “from Moonachie” Philbin which focuses on his suspension and reinstatement.
“We felt that the video that he did for ‘Opie & Anthony’ was somewhat outrageous,” Shea said. “But I think that, given the overwhelming support that he has among fans, there was a sense that we reacted too quickly and too strongly.
“There was a rush to judgment,” Shea said. “And we reversed it.”

update radloffs.net had a much better live blog than philly.com. Steakbellie’s float was a giant can of “Whoopass” beer and Humble Bob’s float was of Joey chestnut roasting over a fake fire.
update #2 philebrity.com also did a live blog from the Wachovia Center
