The new poll asks where you think the best non-IFOCE American eater, whoever you think that is, would rank in a poll listing all American eaters regardless of organization.

In her most recent blog entry, Tomoko Miyake reports that she and her sister, Naoko, went to a buffet for lunch Saturday with several finalists from the 2006 and 2007 “Gluttonous Queen” contests. They arrived when the restaurant opened at 11am and stayed until the lunch buffet closed until 4pm. Tomoko thinks she ate the least of her party.
The buffet they ate at, Rouji not only offers all you can eat food and non alcoholic drinks, but also includes unlimited alcoholic beverages for an extra fee (1200 yen for men, 900 yen for women)
TyraNews.blogspot.com has the following show summary for Tuesday:
Tuesday, 10 April 2007: Doing What You’ve Always Wanted To Do
What is the one thing you’ve always wanted to try? Tyra grants the wishes of lucky viewers when she gives them the chance to fulfill their lifelong dream – no matter how crazy! A self-proclaimed mama’s boy risks his life and challenges a bull in order to bond with his distant, rodeo-loving father. Another woman competes in an extreme eating contest against trained professionals.
According to a January blog entry, Tim Janus and Seaver Miller are the eaters the woman competes against.

(From Liz K comment) An article in Salon.com describes the author’s attempt to eat 30 Cadbury Creme Eggs in an hour (He managed half his goal)
In the years since, the story has been retold many times, by me and by others. I used to finish its telling with a flourish of face-saving braggadocio, challenging any man alive to finish more than 15 of those damn eggs in an hour. But I know better now. The world — and the Web — is lousy with more seasoned stomach-stuffers. Surely someone can do it, and will. Sonya “the Black Widow” Thomas has already put Cool Hand Luke to shame, downing 65 hard-boiled eggs in six minutes and 40 seconds. Gawker.com recently chronicled a shockingly similar (and independently conceived, from what I can tell) contest wherein two Maxim interns each attempted 50 Creme Eggs, though they had all day to do it (and failed as miserably as I).
The Maxim interns attempt at that challenge is documented at http://www.gawker.com/news/culture/party-crash/maxim-at-work-a-look-inside-the-magazine-industry-035752.php

A video of Natsuko “Gal” Sone eating 2kg of curry while two men attempt normal sized plates of curry can be viewed at http://youtube.com/watch?v=wWQu05zJI7M I think that Gal Sone competed against one of the men at her table in a karaoke contest.
MosesNews.com has an entry and several pictures (which are all timestamped April 21, 2005) about Don “Moses” Lerman’s and “Krazy” Kevin Lipsitz’s attempt to finish the 6+ lb. burger challenge at the newly opened Black Rock Tavern:
TONITE KRAY KEVIN LIPSITZ AND DON ”MOSES” LERMAN CAME INCHES AWAY FROM COMPLETING THE BIG BURGER . THE BURGER WEIGHED 6&1/2 lbs KEVIN CLEANLY ATE ALL MEAT” THE 5 PLUS LBS OF MEAT ”, MOSES ATE ALL THE MEAT EXEPT FOR SOME DEBRIS AND FINISHED 3/4 OF THE TOP OF THE ROLL . AT 25 MIN INTO THE BURGER LORRIANE LIPSITZ SAID THERES 35 MIN MORE , AS FAR AS I WAS CONSERNED SHE COULD HAVE SAID 35 HRS OR DAYS LEFT I WAS SPENT AT THAT PIONT AND THREW IN THE TOWEL .
thetimes-tribune.com has an article about the founders of EATORF, who are sponsoring a single cheesesteak eating contest in Throop, PA (greater Scranton) on Monday:
The group is the brainchild of three friends, Justin Leff, of Olyphant, Eric Mina, of Taylor, and Chris Glenn, of Dalton, who were discussing different concepts for a business venture and came up with a competitive eating league that could hold events in bars and other venues.
“Bars and entertainment are synonymous with each other,†Mr. Leff said, citing other entertainment genres like karaoke and trivia nights. And, he added, many taverns have a certain food that they are known for — buffalo wings, for instance, or nachos. “We could come in and promote that item.â€
Here is what he and his partners envision: an evening filled with colorful contestants who dream up clever nicknames for themselves and who might partake in a bit of trash talk. Mr. Leff and Mr. Mina will co-host the competition, interviewing the participants before and after, and providing commentary throughout. Mr. Glenn will serve as referee.
“We want to make it as much of a show as possible,†Mr. Leff said.
EATORF contests will focus on speed rather than quantity. For Monday’s cheesesteak event, participation will be limited to the first 20 people who register. There will be 10 heats, in which pairs of people square off against each other. The two fastest qualifiers will then compete in a championship round.
Brian Seiken reports that Ron Koch will face a field of pro football players at the New York, New York hotel in Las Vegas on May 21. This will be Koch’s first contest since the Reno ribs contest in August.
The April calendar for the South Florida Fairgrounds in West Palm Beach says the IFOCE corn eating contest will return on April 29.

MetroSpirit has an interview with Donn Pearce, who wrote the novel “Cool Hand Luke” the film starring Paul Newman was based on. Pearce has an interesting comment about the egg eating contest in that film:
He is referring to the many associations to the Bible people insist run through “Cool Hand Luke.â€
“I didn’t plan any of that stuff. But everyone keeps telling me Luke is like Jesus. In the film it was heavy. That a**hole director [Stuart] Rosenberg actually posed [Paul] Newman out like Jesus on the crucifix after the famous egg eating contest. Subtle.â€
