The facebook for Lucky 13 announces that Molly Schuyler finished its burger challenge in 12:43 to break the record of 17:48 set by Jamie McDonald earlier this year. Miki Sudo also finished the challenge in 20:55.
IFOCE.com has a list of the top 10 moments in competitive eating for 2013, all of which took place at Major League Eating events.
Melissa Koh has a blog entry about finishing a 1kg burger challenge in 14 minutes at the Meat Packing District in Singapore.

Stanford has been announced as the winner of the 2013 Beef Bowl, outeating Michigan State by 15 pounds of prime rib at Lawry’s in Beverly Hills. Patch.com has a history of the pre-Rose Bowl event, which was called the Beef Scrimmage from 1970 to 1972. Michigan State lost despite having a twitter devoted to its “Meat Squad”.

Kotaku on “Mok-Bang”

Kotaku has a report on the South Korean phenomenon of webstreamed meals known as mok-bang. The videos are transmitted on the Afreeca.com website, which has the facility for spectators to donate money to performers. The star of mok-bang is known as “The Diva” (The디바) and her monthly food bill of $3,000 is offset by revenue from her afreeca.com page. Her huge dinners generally take around two hours to complete and she chats online for several hours following her meal. (Youtube channel with videos from “The Diva). (via Oddity Central).

The Independent has a report on the controversy surrounding tonight's guga (gannet chick) eating contest to be held on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland. update Dec 30 Peter Macritchie of Glasgow won the contest.
The Kansas State newspaper has a listing of the best wing eaters on the University of Michigan football team in advance of the Buffalo Wild Wings Bowl tomorrow. (It does not appear that an actual wing eating contest will be held in conjunction with that event.)

Unranked people with 10+ Nathan’s HDB in 2013

A listing of people who ate 10 hot dogs or more in a Nathan’s hot dog contest in 2013 and omitted from the recent MLE top 50 follows. Among ranked people who competed in a Nathan’s contest in 2013, Mary Bowers had the lowest total (10.5). Brian Seiken and Andrew Kogutkiewicz tied for the second lowest (11).

Former Nathan's hot dog contest promoter Mortimer Matz is quoted in a New York Times article about releasing bad news during the holiday season.
The Big Eaters Club announce that Molly Schuyler will attempt the Mad Greek Challenge in Portland on January 2. She will receive $500 if she finishes the 10+ pound sandwich along with a pound Greek fries in under an hour.
Eating contests are one of the activities held during the Yule Festival in Lord of the Rings Online. The foods used include pies, eggs and mushrooms.
"Tiny" Tim Rauscheder has a commentary about a video of him consuming a bucket of chicken and a 40 ounce malt liquor being used in a modern art installation in London. The exhibitors did not ask for permission to display his video.
Stephen's on State will hold a wing eating contest on Sunday awarding $100 if they can get enough competitors. (via Ukraine Train).

Sonya Thomas top ranked female streak in jeopardy

Sonya Thomas debuted in the IFOCE/MLE rankings in August 2003 at #8 and has been the top ranked woman in that listing since that time. When the Fall 2013 Winter 2013-14 MLE top 50 is released, that streak will probably be ended by Miki Sudo.

In the last rankings without Sonya Thomas from Summer (June?) 2003 Takako Akasaka was the top female at #12 despite not having competed in an IFOCE event since the 2000 Nathan’s finals where she finished 3rd. (Lorraine Arroll appears to be the top female American at #54). The top 15s from the rankings follow after the jump:
