TimeOutNY says that the starting time for the Chock Full o Nuts World Date-Nut Bread Eating Contest is 9:30 am at Madison Square Garden and that the general public is welcome as spectators, which is not always the case for a weekday contest. There are several interesthing themes to the contest:

• Can Joey Chestnut reboud from his first loss to an American since February?

• A strong performance by Pat Bertoletti could put him ahead of Sonya Thomas for the #2 moneywinner. The winnings column does not include the 1st place turkey prize for Pat since I have not been able to find what that is.

• The matchup between Arturo Rios and Juliet Lee could establish who is the leading candidate for 2007 IFOCE rookie of the year.

(From Liz K) A bikini string french fry eating contest at Bikini’s Bar & Grill has been added to the IFOCE schedule on January 27, 2007. The total purse is $2000.

The press release on the restaurant’s website lists Joey Chestnut, Sonya Thomas and Tim Janus as the expected out of towners. (I am not sure if this means that Sonya has reconciled with IFOCE or if they added her as an entrant without consulting her. )

Asbury Park Press has a brief preview of Saturday’s meatball contest in Atlantic City. Bob Shoudt, Chip Simpson, Tim Janus along with defending champion Sonya Thomas are listed as expected entrants. The most interesting part concerns who will MC the event:

The contest will be hosted by the “Jersey Guys” Craig Carton and Ray Rossi of NJ101.5, and they will be qualifying one winner through their radio show which airs Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Carton & Rossi have some previous competitive eating experience. They interviewed Kate Stelnick during her post-Denny’s media blitz.

(From IFOCE.com) The Thanksgiving Invitational will take place on November 22 at Artie’s Delicatessen in New York City. Heartburn medication Axia 3 takes over sponsorship from goldenpalace.net. As in 2005, the food will remain whole turkeys, but larger birds will be used this year. Spectators from the general public will not be allowed at the contest.

competitiveeatingnews.com says that it is “very likely” that heartburn remedy Axia 3 will sponsor the 2006 Thanksgiving Invitational. Previous Thanksgiving invitationals have been held in New York City, but the food changed from year to year.

Crazy Legs Conti will appear at an amateur wing eating contest at the Wingery in Covington, LA, on Thursday, the first Lousiana IFOCE event since Katrina.

Zwire has a preview of tomorrow’s Nanobite burger eating contest at the Clinton Station Diner. The recipe for the 70+ lb. megaburger to be unveiled has apparently not been finalized and there is a $300 prize for naming it. Contest spectators are encouraged to bring at least $15 worth of groceries which will be used in care packages sent to overseas troops by Operation Shoebox.

The wayawesome blog has a picture of the Nanobite burger on top of a Mt. Olympus burger claiming that the burger patty weighs .4 oz, and the total weight is 1.4 oz, only .6 oz less than a Krystal / White Castle burger.

Jed Donahue will return to the Grand Canyon State after destroying the Heart Attack Grill’s Quadruple Bypass Burger record. Erik “The Red” Denmark, Frank Wach and “El Toro” Jimenez are expected. Three of the leading wild card contenders, Crazy Legs Conti, Erik “the Red” Denmark and Justin Mih will battle for the last remaining berths. Hall Hunt will come if he can find transportation. Buffalo Jim Reeves will travel south to try to threepeat the qualifier. Larry McNeil is also expected.

(from AICE news) The AICE contest at the Clinton Station Diner on October 28 will use “Nano” burgers, claimed to be the world’s smallest hamburger instead of the restaurant’s giant Zeus or Mt. Olympus burgers. The contest will be a team event. The goal will be to eat 1,000 miniburgers to celebrate the diner’s 1000 days of operations.
