BrooklynPaper.com has a podcast of a song about the 2009 Nathan's finals performed by Amos Wengler, the Bard of Coney Island.
You can still bet on Crazy Legs Conti vs. Patrick Vandam on Sportbook.com even though Patrick Vandam did not qualify. Both eaters must compete for the bet to be valid, so bettors will not be able to win some easy money by betting on Conti.
BeautifulBrian.com has reports on the Bunnette Bootcamp and the Cops vs. Firefighters qualifer. Bob Cocadrillo won the qualifier and will compete in the Nathan's finals Saturday.

Pete Davekos wins final Nathan’s qualifier

The contest was apparently moved to San Jose State according to ratlhead’s gallery.

It’s probably a safe assumption that the runner-up of today’s San Bruno qualifier will eat more than 11 HDB that last year’s second place finisher did.

Buffalo Jim Reeves returns to Nathan’s finals

George Shea’s twitter reports that “Buffalo” Jim Reeves won today’s Atlanta-area Nathan’s qualifier, placing him in the finals for the first time since 2004. The five year gap between finals appearances might be the largest.

In addition to betting on the overall winner (Joey Chestnut, Takeru Kobayashi and the field are the choices) 6 head to head matchups are also available. Crazy Legs Conti vs. Patrick Vandam is one of the choices even though Vandam has yet to qualify.

The Nathan's finals broadcast now appears on TV listings. Like previous years, the program will start at noon eastern and last an hour.

Eric “Badlands” Booker and Pat “from Moonachie” Philbin will compete in today’s Nathan’s qualifier at the new New York Mets ballpark. According to Pat’s twitter, hot dogs might not require dunking.

July 3 Coney Island Humans vs. elephants eating contest

(Via eater) The Brooklyn Papers reports that Coney Island will host a hot dog bun eating contest between three unnamed humans and three elephants from the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus on July 3. George Shea has the following quote:

“When most people see elephants, they see the majesty of nature. To me, I see an arrogant animal that needs to be taken down a notch,” said an unabashedly pro-human Shea.


Comedienne Lily Tomlin protested
the elephants’ Coney Island appearance before the eating contest was announced.
