An associate producer for Jimmy Kimmel Live has emailed the following request:

Hello there! I am looking for competitive eaters in the Los Angeles area to participate in a live bit for our show (possibly tomorrow night). We are doing special shows for the NBA Finals and want to set up a competition… the catch is: they will be attempting to eat a basketball.

If you could help me in any way, I would greatly appreciate it. Let me know. Thanks!

update June 16 The casting director has more info:

We are looking for 2 people to eat an actual basketball. The basketball will be shredded into little pieces. I don’t know of anyone who would be willing to do that since it’s not food.

Digital Spy reports that “Gentleman” Joe Menchetti appeared on America’s Got Talent tonight and attempted to eat 5 pizzas in 90 seconds. (He did not advance to the next round.) The episode should be available on NBC.com soon. Will Millender says he was originally cast for the program, but could not appear due to gall bladder surgery and recommended Menchetti take his place.

Sam Skelton relays a rumor that Man vs. Food will record at Dinosaur BBQ in Syracuse today. Dan Hardy reports that the program recorded at Wohl Practice Field at Syracuse University earlier today. update Syracuse.com has an article about the recording. A commenter says the program will record at Mother’s Cupboard on Thursday.

update June 9 Syracuse.com reports that Man vs. Food is recording at Heid’s in Liverpool, NY today
