The MLE twitter announces that Max Suzuki will do Saturday's Nathan's qualifier at the NYNY Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. I think he will be the first Japanese competitive eater to attempt to qualify for the Nathan's finals since the 2006 qualifier in Tokyo. No other Vegas entrants were listed. Earlier today, Takeru Kobayashi faced off against a lion in an eating contest on a New Year's Day special for Japanese TV called Battle of Beauty and Beast. According to an instagram caption by "Beard Meats Food", the annual Battle of Big Eaters produced by TV Tokyo will not return on New Years Day 2018.

Oogui 2016 has videos of the entire broadcast of Battle of Big Eaters 4 on TV Tokyo today (Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3). Molly Schuyler did not compete in the final match of the program; Bob Shoudt faced off against Moeno Azuki.

Vancouver.craigslist.ca has a request for Canadian competitive eaters to compete in the qualifier for Battle of the Big Eaters 4 in Vancouver in September. The selected competitors will face teams from Japan, the USA and another country later in the fall in Dallas.
