Yes Matt I have a question. Do you have an alternate system for eaters like Don Lernman to accumulate points. Sort of like the golf tees for females I suppose?
Luther, the point system was created in part to reward the eaters that are consistent, but generally don’t place in the top 3. So to answer your question, the system will enable these types of eaters to accumulate points. I don’t think Don should be classified as this type of eater, however. He has put up some of the most prolific numbers in the sport’s history.

It has come to my attention that at least one email was sent using the address ojrifkn@yahoo.com (Note the lack of the last i) claiming to be from the administrator of this site. No ojrifkin emails have been sent in the last several weeks that were not replies to previous emails, so any recent unsolicited email from “ojrifkin” is a forgery. If you do receive an unexpected email claiming to be sent by someone involved in the operation of this website, please verify it with the ojrifkin@yahoo.com email address. The actual content of the fake email is rather innocuous, and I have no reason to believe it was sent by a frequent commenter.

mercurynews.com has an article about the aftermath of the fatality in the water drinking contest:
“I wouldn’t be surprised if we all got a letter: No more stunts, ever, of any kind,” said KSAN-FM (107.7) program director Larry Sharp. “It’s terrifying. All stunts probably have some measure of danger. Anything can go wrong.”
Since 1938, when Orson Welles aired his famous “The War of the Worlds” play, radio stunts have gotten stations and hosts in trouble. Many hosts have been fired but often hired elsewhere. This is the first time in anyone’s memory that 10 people, including managers were fired
In other news, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department is now investigating the death as a homocide.

The Israeli newspaper Haaretz has profiles of the first six players to sign a contract with the Israel Baseball League, including former competitive eater Leon Feingold:
Now that he has signed to play baseball in Israel next summer, Feingold will suspend his competitive eating career. “It’s more important for me right now to focus on getting my body in shape for baseball than to get my body into shape for eating,” he explains. However, he would agree to a between-inning falafel eating contest next summer − “as long as I’m not pitching that day.”

mercurynews.com reports that KDND fired 10 employees, including the three DJs who presided over the water drinking contest in which Jennifer Lea Strange died after drinking approximately 2 gallons of water.
startribune.com has more details about the contest including reports that the DJs were warned of the risks of the contest by a caller:
About two hours into the contest, a woman who identified herself as Eva called the show. She warned the hosts that “those people that are drinking all that water can get sick and possibly die from water intoxication.”
One host replied that “we’re aware of that.” Another said the contestants had signed releases, “so we’re not responsible.”
“And if they get to the point where they have to throw up, then they’re going to throw up and they’re out of the contest before they die, so that’s good, right?” one host said. One of the hosts then asked a DJ stationed in the kitchen with the contestants, “Is anybody dying in there?”
“We got a guy who’s just about to die,” he said.
“Make sure he signs the release,” the host replied.
