Last year, the Atlanta Nathan’s qualifier and the corndog eating contest held at the Corndogorama music festival were held the same day. After participating in both events and winning the corndog contest in 2006, Dale Boone said he would choose the corndog contest over the hot dog qualifier next year. He will have to make no such decision this year since Pine Magazine reports the festival will start July 12.

From IFOCE.com
“The East Hartford contest is typically held in an open-air parking lot. For years we’ve been blessed with good weather for this event. In consideration of this Saturday’s forecast, we’ve elected to hold the contest in a building that is the former home of an Ames department store. This vacant Ames is in the same strip mall as the Nathan’s Famous in East Hartford. It is the ideal replacement venue for this qualifier.â€

The Brooklyn Papers reports that Will Millender will appear on a weight loss reality show in which he will attempt to walk from Boston to Washington, DC.
Trial, tribulations, and even a slice of celebrity are nothing new for Millender, who has battled his weight for several years, and whose image can still be found on storefront posters across Ridge for his first place showing at the Fifth Avenue pizza-eating contest last June at Rocco’s Pizzeria (Millender was cheered to victory by a huge crowd that included a once-legendary, now slimmed-down, eater, Borough President Markowitz).
He ate 10 slices in the regulation 12 minutes. The performance made him a legend.

The archives for Time Magazine have an article with a paragraph about the 1933 corn eating contest held in Ortonville, Minnesota, where an AICE contest will take place this year:
At the Ortonville, Minn, harvest festival last year Mrs. L. W. Lindstrom munched hard for the women’s corn-eating championship, finished second to Pauline Lewis who set a women’s record of 25 ears. Ed (“Korn King”) Kottwitz won the men’s championship with a world’s record of 37 ears. Last week at the festival, with two dozen waitresses rushing supplies from steaming boilers chocked with Golden Bantam corn, Mrs. Lindstrom, 71 and every tooth her own, beat Pauline Lewis, 22, by one ear with a new women’s record of 45 ears. Ed Kottwitz kept his championship by chomping down 50 ears.
Mrs. Lindstrom’s performance is the best performance by an eater over the age of 70 I am aware of.
It is surprising that an eating contest would be held during the trough of the Great Depression.

Some observations on the current IFOCE points standings are below. More analysis might be done this weekend if time and desire are present.
No points were awarded for the Wing Bowl or St. Pat’s Chowdown
Nathan’s qualifiers and the Broadway at the Beach contest are 25 point events. All other contests are 50 point events.
The 2nd and 3rd place finishers in the Sunrise qualifier, James Saliba and John Boehnker are not listed.
Justin Mih should have more than one point. (His corn contest points were apparently not added)

LATimes.com reports that talk radio hosts Opie & Anthony have been suspended from XM satellite radio for 30 days:
The hosts of “The Opie & Anthony Show” had apologized last Friday for airing a homeless man’s crude comments about wanting to have sex with First Lady Laura Bush, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and Queen Elizabeth II. But on Monday’s program, they sounded less contrite, complaining of having to adhere to their employer’s “dumb rules” and expressing sympathy for Don Imus and several other radio hosts who they said had recently lost jobs “just for trying to entertain people.”
An audio clip of the segment responsible for the suspension is available.
IFOCE competitor Pat Philbin is a frequent guest on the Opie & Anthony show and was temporarily suspended from IFOCE for appearing in a controversial video recorded at the Opie & Anthony studios.
