Competitve Eating in “The Simpsons”

Tonight’s episode of The Simpsons, “Luca$”, in which Lisa dates an aspiring competitve eater named Lucas Bortner is not the first appearance of competitive eating in the animated series. Eating challenges from previous episodes:

There is also an eating challenge level in the Simpsons video game and the Simpsons comic book had a story titled “Man vs. Beast vs. Food”.

Former MLE employee Ryan Nerz, author of Eat This Book and MarijuanAmerica,  has been named chief cannabis correspondent for Fusion and will host "The Cannabusiness Report" on the new cable channel owned by ABC and Univision. (Ryan Nerz and Jason Fagone continue to share a topic despite moving on from competitive eating; the author of Horsemen of the Esophagus has written articles about marijuana for Grantland.com and The New Republic.)
In Sunday's episode of The Simpsons (Luca$) Zach Galifianakis will guest star as an aspiring competitive eater that Lisa will date. Her family will encourage her to look for other potential boyfriends.
Jimmy Dykes, who has served as a reporter in broadcasts of the Nathan's hot dog eating finals on ESPN, has been named head women's basketball coach at the University of Arkansas.
In the latest episode of Welcome to Sweetie Pie's, a program on the Oprah Winfrey Network, "The Beast", a 6 pound burger challenge at The Backyard Grill in Houston, TX, was attempted. Nicole Doty was the only person who has previously completed the challenge.

U-31 in San Diego will hold a pizza eating contest on Friday awarding over $300 in prizes in conjunction with a concert by The Pizza Underground, a pizza-themed band featuring child star Macaulay Culkin.  
Pizza from Big Mama's & Papa's in Los Angeles was served by Ellen DeGeneres during the Oscars awards. The Food Network is now showing Glutton Force Five on "Food Court Wars".  update Glutton Force Five won the prize of a free mall spot for a year after changing their name to "Taco in a Bag".
