In the most recent episode of Jerry Seinfeld’s web video series Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, he travels to Coney Island with Todd Barry. While dining at Nathan’s (10:38 mark) they have the following conversation: (via Bensonhurst Bean)
JS: Have you ever seen that disgusting Nathan’s hot dog eating contest?
TB: I don’t understand why you would want to be good at that
JS: Well they dip the hot dog in the water
TB: Yeah
JS: The dryness is what slows down the consumption
TB: It prevents them from having 73 hot dogs in two minutes. Gotta wet em. All I can think about is what happens after.
JS: It must be just unbelievable. Joey Chestnut, right, I believe he is the champion.
TB: Oh, is that who it was? I knew it was a guy from Japan for a while.
JS: Kobayashi. Are you surprised that I know these names?
TB: Yeah, I have only watched it a few times.

Kotaku has a report on the South Korean phenomenon of webstreamed meals known as mok-bang. The videos are transmitted on the Afreeca.com website, which has the facility for spectators to donate money to performers. The star of mok-bang is known as “The Diva” (The디바) and her monthly food bill of $3,000 is offset by revenue from her afreeca.com page.
