(via eatingcontest twitter) Sonya Thomas’ appearance on Washington Post Live can now be viewed online. Sonya says that she is considering the meatball eating contest in Las Vegas and that popcorn was her most difficult contest food.

An entry under “Just Fans” on the Man vs. Food facebook wall by someone claiming to work for the show reports that the program will record in Washington, DC this weekend. The challenge will probably be the burger & shake challenge at Chick & Ruth Delly in Annapolis.

The BBC’s North American editor has a column about the end of his American assignment which mentions the Z-Burger contest at the start of last month:

On the last day we spent in our home in north-east Washington, they were holding a food-eating competition in a burger bar at the end of our street. The sight was nauseating: acne-ridden youths, several already obese, stuffing meat and buns into their mouths while local television reporters, the women in dinky pastel suits, rushed around getting the best shots.

The column also lists “Bojangles Pizza” as a hallmark of Route 17 in South Carolina.

A video of the hot dog eating contest for Washington, DC area local celebrities held at last night’s Washington Capitals game has been uploaded to youtube. Sonya Thomas did not participate due to a stomach cramp. The winner, Brian Egan of WMZQ, said “Sonya Thomas, put that in your pipe and smoke it” after his victory.

The website for the Washington Capitals NHL team reports that the team will hold a eating contest for area college students before the game against the New York Islanders on December 4. Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas will be a judge and trainer for that event. College students interested in competing should listen to ESPN Radio 980. There will also be a hot dog eating contest for local celebrities that Sonya Thomas will compete in.

This is the second hot dog eating contest for college students the Washington Capitals have hosted in 2008. The first competition was held in January.

A bratwurst eating contest for four person teams will be held in the Washington, DC area over the next two weekends. The contest will be a relay in which each team member has to finish 4 brats before the next can start. Qualifiers will be held in 9 locations on Sunday and the finals will take place on October 5. The grand prize is $300 cash, four tickets to a Redskins home game, and a limo to the game. Qualifier winners will receive a $50 bar tab and a Beck’s shwag bag. The registration deadline is tomorrow.
