Sun Sentinel has a list of expected entrants in Sunday's pickle eating contest at Isle Casino Pompano park listing several previously unnamed competitors: Damien Boykin, Jon Bello, RJ Frasca and Bruce Ollis. The contest will start at 11 am.

Furious Pete wins Mardi Gras watermelon

update “Furious” Pete Czerwinski’s facebook reports that he won $2,500 at the watermelon eating contest by eating 34 slices in 3 minutes. Joe Menchetti ate 23 slices and Dale Boone ate 21. 2nd (27 slices) and 3rd (26 slices) were not named, and Pete says they did not follow the rules.

The Mardi Gras Casino twitter should be announcing results of the watermelon eating contest soon.

“Appetite of the Beast” at Iron Maiden’s drummer’s restaurant

(from Man vs. Food forum) The Broward Palm Beach New Times has an article about the opening of Iron Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain’s new restaurant, Rock N Roll Ribs, in Coral Springs, Florida. One of the items on the menu is called “The Appetite of the Beast”, which consists of 1.5 racks of ribs, a pound of pulled pork and beef, half a chicken, and side items of fries, beans, Cole slaw, corn on the cob, and Texas toast and is free to a diner who completes it without assistance.

The 22 inch “Big Unit” hot dog at Alice Cooperstown in the Phoenix area hot dog is the only other eating challenge offered by a restaurant owned by a rock star I am aware of.

South Florida burger challenge reports

Clay Cartland has set up a website documenting his Miami-area eating challenges at http://www.panclayke.blogspot.com/ The December 17 entry describes his setting the record for the Doomsday burger at Kingdom and confirms that the restaurant will appear on the February 3 live episode of Man vs. Food. The blog also has a link to donate to Feeding South Florida.
