It is not stated if that restriction will be in effect for the professional contest as well.

“Music and Songs” (?) : Ian Hickman wins Dewey Beach wings
I have no idea why a blog called “Music and Songs” would have eating contest results, but it reports that a man from Sterling, VA won the “suicide” wing eating contest at the Starboard in Dewey Beach, DE by eating 137 wings in a half an hour.

2006 Baltimore Pancake contest
I recently came across this article and video on wjz.com about a pancake eating contest held at Pete’s Grille in Baltimore in November. Johns Hopkins student Liz Gilbert won the women’s division with 10.5 pancakes in a hour. She won the division in 2004 and was DQed in 2005. There is an article about Ms. Gilbert in the Johns Hopkins newsletter in which she describes why she competes in eating contests:
“Eating is such a faux-pas for women. Eating and food, for American women, is too big a deal. I like to see people take it less seriously, take their bodies less seriously, and this is something that’s emblematic of that,” she said.
“[Expletive deleted] it. I don’t care if people think I eat a lot. If you keep a regular diet and exercise and feel good about yourself, I don’t see why you can’t go out and do something excessive every once and a while.”
5th place men’s finisher Scott Yin also gets an article in the Johns Hopkins newsletter. Only the first name of the men’s division winner, Lee, is listed.
“The Science of Speed Eaters” coming to National Geographic channel
The Andrews Air Force base website has an article about Sonya Thomas, who manages the Burger King at that location. The article says that Sonya was filmed for a documentary to be televised on the National Geographic Channel in 2007 called “The Science of Speed Eaters” Tim Janus and Loren Yarbrough are also expected to appear in that program.
Updated Big Fish DC, the production company, has a program description:
In this thrilling hour, we’ll take viewers inside the bellies of competitive eaters and see how the human body can be pushed to its gastronomical limit. We will follow an up and coming southern eater, Bubba, a father of two, as he tries to reach the big time in speed eating. We’ll meet famed 105 lb. Sonya “Black Widow” Thomas – a woman who out eats men four times her size. We’ll follow a champion eater as for the first time, the medical community studies the physiological changes that allow a person to consume over 50 hotdogs in ten minutes, with no apparent ill effects. NCG goes inside the world of competitive eating and brings viewers what until now, has never been seen.

(from Todd Bertch) old-bay.com has the results from Friday’s Peel & Eat Shrimp contest in Baltimore. Todd Bertch won the $10,000 first place prize. wjz.com has an article with a video clip. The contest was closed to “professional” eaters and required an essay about Old Bay seasoning to gain entrance to the qualifiers.
UrbanHonking truefan Three Brothers Pizza writeup available
Liz and Krista’s report from the Three Brothers Pizza eating contest has been uploaded to truefan. A flickr gallery of the contest is also available.
Some observations from that writeup:
Juliet Lee claims that she can eat more than Sonya Thomas. Like Sonya, she believes her forte is non bready foods which do not require much chewing.
Pat Bertoletti will appear (or might have appeared already) on “Attack of the Show” on G4/Tech TV sometime this week.
Andrew Lane also competed in the contest and has some reports and pictures on his blog.
