Toledo Free Press announces that the Smoke on the Water will hold cole slaw and pulled pork eating contests in downtown Toledo on August 5 and 6. Both contests will award prize packages with a listed value of $500.
"Tiny" Tim Rauscheder won a contest at The Happy Dog in Cleveland by eating 27 hot dogs in 10 minutes (the contest ran out of hot dogs) and Randy Santel won a competition held at Up Dog in Independence, Missouri by eating 21 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

Cincinnati.com reports Joe LaRue was prevented from officially competing in a five pound Reuben sandwich eating contest held to promote the 110th anniversary of Izzy's in Cincinnati due to being considered too good by the contest organizers.
The Cleveland Leader has an article about the June 2 Cleveland Nathan's qualifier confirming that Pat Bertoletti is expected to compete against Scott Bickel in that contest. The contest will take place at 12:30 pm at the Grand Staircase of Tower City Center.
