2:36 The tamale eating contest has started
A press release lists the prizes to be payed out at Dickey's Barbecue eating contest in Dallas on October 18: $500 / $250 / $150 / $50. Qualifiers will be held Friday in Plano, TX and in Pleasanton, CA and Meridian, Idaho on Saturday.
Dickey's BBQ facebook has a list of all the qualifier sites and dates for its pork barbecue sandwich eating contest: "Raleigh, NC- 9/15; San Antonio, TX 9/16; Overland Park, KS 9/17; Plano, TX 9/23; Meridian, ID 9/24 & Pleasanton, CA 9/24"
The four Dallas area locations of Burguesa Burger will hold burger eating contests on September 17 awarding a 19 inch TV with a built in DVD player.
A press release announces that Dickey's Barbecue will hold a pork sandwich eating contest in Dallas on October 18. Five qualifiers for the contest will be held; the first will take place in Raleigh, NC on September 15. The BBQ Jew is calling for a protest of the qualifier where competitors would not eat any sandwiches while wearing a T-shirt from a local barbecue restaurant.
Blue Ribbon News has a preview of the tamale contest to be held at Lewisville (TX) Western Days on September 24 listing the entire field. Tim Janus is expected to defend his title and Matt Stonie and Stephanie Torres are also listed as competitors. Part 3 of the history of the tamale contest has also been posted.
Star Telegram and CTNow have articles about Pete MacGillis, who will attempt a five pound bowl of Pho from Sprouts SpringRoll and Pho in Arlington, TX tonight. MacGillis was the first person to finish the "El Jefe" burger at Kenny's Burger Joint.
Dallas Observer's Brew at the Zoo will hold a wing eating contest on September 10 awarding a trip for two to Las Vegas. Qualifiers will be held on Tuesdays in August at Dallas-area Hooters starting tonight in Irving.

It has been over two weeks since Pat Bertoletti won the Wingstop wing eating contest in Dallas on April 13 and results have not been posted on the contest page on IFOCE.com. (Results have been added to more recent contest pages.) Bertoletti's winning total has not been listed on the IFOCE records page despite being more than three pounds greater than the previous record.
