Denver pizza challenge increases prize to $1,000

Westword reports that Virgilio’s Pizza in Denver will award $1,000 to the first diner that can finish its 10-11 pound pizza challenge after receiving feedback that the challenge was too difficult. A 7 pound pizza challenge awarding $100 and a 5 pound challenge awarding $25 have also been added.

"Furious" Pete Czerwinski has uploaded a video of him eating a 15 inch pizza in less than 2 minutes. In a bodybuilding.com forum thread about the video, Pete says he will be at Denny's Beer Barrel this Friday.
Pioneer Local has an article about a team breaking the record (new record 15:37) for the 30 inch pizza challenge for three diners at 30's Pizza Factory in Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Westword reports that Virgilio's Pizzeria in Lakewood, Colorado has started at 10-11 pound pizza challenge which awards $100 and the cost of the pizza to a diner that can finish it without help or bathroom breaks in under 2 hours.

Female finishers of Beau Jo’s pizza challenge

A metromix gallery of an attempt at the 12-14 pound pizza challenge for two person teams at Beau Jo’s (Denver area) includes a picture of the “Wall of Fame” dedicated to Anna & Micah, the most recent pair to finish the challenge. 110 pound Anna reportedly ate more pizza than Micah.

On the Man vs. Food forum, an employee at the Glenwood Springs Beau Jo’s location reports that the only finishers at that site have been two thin women.

Andrew “A Bomb” Lane states that only 11 teams out of 1960 have successfully completed the pizza challenge since it became available in 1973, one of the lower success ratios.

Another Connecticut pizza challenge is available at Bang Bang Pizza in Norwalk. According to the restaurant’s facebook page, no one has finished the 22 inch pizza in the 30 minute limit and the only person to complete the pizza after the time expired is the woman pictured below:

Randy's Pizza in Oakdale, Minnesota has put out a press release about the attempts of two 5 person teams to complete a 48 inch pizza challenge.

“The Great Moomsi” to be Adam Richman’s pizza partner

(Via Greg Avola twitter) The commercial for next week’s episode (Hartford) of Man vs. Food is available on youtube and it reports that Greg “The Great Moomsi” Maloomian will be Adam Richman’s partner for the two person pizza challenge at Randy’s Wooster St. Pizza. Previous New England eating challenges by “The Great Moomsi” can be seen at Grippa69’s youtube page.

update This will be the second national cable TV appearance for a bodybuilding.com member in ten days. “Furious” Pete Czerwinski appeared on last Sunday’s episode of “Humanly Impossible” on the National Geographic Channel.

The Emory Wheel has an interview with the manager of Big Pie in the Sky Pizza about its Carnivore Challege who says that the most recent pair to complete the challenge (who are not yet listed on the online wall of fame) included a female who wants to start a "Woman vs. Food" show.
The online Pointersaurus finishers list has been updated with the first 2009 success: Dale and Cathy Boone were the first mother / son pair to complete the pizza on August 24.
The twitter for Big Mama's & Papa's pizza in Los Angeles reports that an attempt at the 54 inch square pizza challenge was made today. 23 slices were left over after the attempt, the smallest amount so far.

A video of a bearded Pat Bertoletti completing a 12 pound pizza challenge with a teammate at an unnamed restaurant in Detroit has been uploaded to his yardbarker page. The challenge took place on June 20 when Bertoletti did the Jimmy John's makers vs. eaters event in Detroit, which is available in Pat Bertoletti's yardbarker videos. Youtube also has a Saturday's taco contest in its entirety.
HeavyTable reports that Tom "Goose Gilbert" will attempt to win $1,000 by eating the 30 inch pizza at Randy's Pizza (Minneapolis area) tonight without assistance.
