Yes Matt I have a question. Do you have an alternate system for eaters like Don Lernman to accumulate points. Sort of like the golf tees for females I suppose?
Luther, the point system was created in part to reward the eaters that are consistent, but generally don’t place in the top 3. So to answer your question, the system will enable these types of eaters to accumulate points. I don’t think Don should be classified as this type of eater, however. He has put up some of the most prolific numbers in the sport’s history.
IFOCE points system question thread
Matt Rizzetta of the IFOCE, creator of the new points system, has informed me that he will answer questions about the new system submitted in comments to this post. Please have questions in by 9pm tomorrow.

(Thanks Krista) The New Yorker reports that IFOCE president Richard Shea has founded a group with two other people called called Commuters Allied for Responsible Enjoyment to oppose a proposed ban on the sale and consumption of alcohol on the Long Island and Metro North commuter rail systems. The New Yorker describes Shea’s involvement:
A professional public-relations man, Shea is, by his own admission, an improbable activist. “Normally, I am an opponent and a proponent of nothing,†he said last Thursday night, on the 5:46 to Chappaqua.
The group will have a website at alliedcommuters.com which has yet to open

AICE claims Mark Lyle’s taco result breaks Sonya’s record
From AICE News:
Mark Lyle does Wet Taco demonstration (dunking the Tacos) and shows the world why Picnic Style rules is hard. In doing so, Vacuum breaks Sonya Thomas’s WR of 2:14. It makes you wonder how many of the so-called IFOCE records are a sham?
Sonya Thomas lists her taco record as 48 in 11 minutes, and she still managed a pace (about 2:20 per 10 tacos) near Mark Lyle’s.
AICE resumes numerical rankings

New Poll: AICE eater of 2006?
The new poll asks who you think was the top AICE eater in the previous year. AICE has a list of its most memorable moments in 2006 to help you remember who won what contest.
CanadianCompetitiveEaters.com opens
The website for the AICE-affiliated Canadian Competitive Eaters Association, canadiancompetitiveeaters.com is now open. The organization’s founder is In-Ting Ho, also known as the “Hungry Genius”
AICE goes international
AICE News announces that they will sanction “The Shank Off” at sSs Barbecue Barns in Australia. supersizedmeals.com will also be involved in the contest and they have a post about that event. The sSs “Big Shank” is probably the most famous Australian eating challenge and it requires eating a 2.5 kg (5.5 lb.) beef shank. The contest will have regional qualifiers.
AICE also announces that they will affiliate with the newly formed Canadian Competitive Eaters Association. The only information about that organization is that it is run by an 18 year old who calls himself “The Hungry Genius”

2006 Brooklyn latke eating contest
nyblueprint says a latke eating contest will be held in conjunction with the lighting of Brooklyn’s official menorah. It is not clear what day the contest will be on. The contest is called the “2nd World Championship Competitive Latke Eating Contest” so it is probably an IFOCE contest since IFOCE sponsored a latke contest in Brooklyn last year. AICE will hold a latke eating contest in Lake Grove, NY on Sunday.
Skinny Scott & Doginator retire
(from rvs889) AICE news reports that “Skinny” Scott Soifer and Dominick “Doginator” Cardo have both retired. Both Soifer & Cardo were originally members of the IFOCE. Soifer finished second in the infamous 2004 matzo ball contest and Cardo won the beef tongue contest in the 2002 Glutton Bowl. Let’s congratulate them on their competitive careers and wish them the best in their post-eating lives.
updatedDon “Moses” Lerman got 2nd in the 2004 matzo ball contest and Soifer was 3rd. The database has been corrected.
Comparison of baked bean records
With Micah “Wing Kong” Collins qualifying for the Wing Bowl by eating 3 lb 5.33 oz of baked beans in 43 or 48 seconds on Wednesday, I thought I would see how that performance compared to IFOCE record times for other amounts of baked beans:
Micah Collins 53.33 oz / (43 or 48 sec) = 1.24 oz / sec or 1.11 oz. /sec
Dale Boone 84 oz / 82 sec = 1.02 oz. / sec
Don Lerman 96 oz / 108 sec = .889 oz. / sec
Sonya Thomas 134.4 oz / 167 sec = .805 oz. / sec (thanks Luther)
The last two performances are in the IFOCE records. Dale Boone’s best performance is usually listed as 84 oz. in 1:52, but he ate that amount in 1:22 in Dawsonville, GA.
AICE latke contest postponed to Dec 17
AICE news reports that the latke contest to be held at Zan’s Deli in Long Island scheduled for Sunday has been pushed back a week to December 17. This is the second schedule change for the event; the original date was December 3.
New poll: most desired IFOCE change
In his latest blog entry, Wing Tut predicts that some ranked IFOCE members will leave IFOCE because the loss of GoldenPalace’s sponsorship will decrease the amount winnable by eaters ranked outside the top 10.
The new poll asks if you think the standard prize distribution for IFOCE contests should be changed to award more to lower finishers to prevent this possibility or is there another change (if any) you would more like to see.
IFOCE rejects “Masters’ Division” proposal
On competitiveeating.net, IFOCE has a response to Brian Seiken’s call for a competitive eating division for eaters over 40:
“While I think the concept of a masters league as proposed is not viable, it is in no way an admission by retired eaters that they cannot compete with a new breed of competitive eater,” said IFOCE Chair George Shea. “The retired eaters are giants upon whose shoulders the younger eaters stand.”
New poll: non IFOCE eater of 2005-6
The new poll asks who you think was the top eater who did not compete in any IFOCE contests from July 5, 2005 to July 4, 2006.
