New ranking system

To improve the rankings based on head to head competition, I have added the benchmarks of money won in non Nathan’s MLE contests over the past year and personal bests in Nathan’s contests over the past 12 months. The current top 10 in the new system:

win % Prize $ HDB $HDB %$HDB
1 Joey “Jaws” Chestnut 96.4 1 $41000 1 69 1 1 1 1
2 Matt “Megatoad” Stonie 91.1 2 $13400 3 51 2 2.5 2.25 2

10 “The Lovely” Juliet Lee 61.1 12 $950 14 36 8 11 11.5 10

An explanation of the columns:

  • win % Winning percentage over the past 12 months. This was listed in a previous post The column on the right has the ranking of that value.
  • Prize $ Money won in non-Nathan’s MLE contests held during the previous 365 days. If a competitor did not win any cash, he or she tied for last place with $0. The column on the right has the ranking of that value.
  • HDB Personal best in a Nathan’s qualifier or finals from the past year. If there is no Nathan’s result from the past year, the field is empty. The column on the right has the ranking of that value.
  • $HDB If a hot dog personal best is present, this column contains the average of prize money ranking and the hot dog ranking, otherwise it is set to the prize money ranking
  • %$HDB This column contains the average of the winning percentage ranking and the $HDB column. This value is sorted and ranked to produce the final rankings in the leftmost and rightmost columns.

Ties in the rankings result in averaging the placements. If there was a two way tie for third, both places would receive a rank of 3.5.

A listing of all competitors with two or more MLE contests in the past year is available after the jump.
