A press release announces that Takeru Kobayashi promoted the launch of a new cable food channel in Hong Kong. A video of an egg tart eating contest between Kobayashi and two actors is available on youtube. Kobayashi also appeared at a sausage roll eating contest won by Johnny Wu, runner-up to Sonya Thomas in a 2006 contest.
R Suzuki reports that Kobyashi also appeared in a Japanese program where he received the Guinness record for eating burgers.

sahimoto51177115 has some videos from an eating contest on a TV Champion episode from 1999 or 2000. The contest might have served as the Japanese qualifier for the 2000 Nathan’s finals. The three Japanese to compete in Coney Island in 2000 appear in this program: Kaz Arai (32 on bib), Misao Fujita (46 on bib) and Takako Akasaka (44 on bib), the holder of the pre-Sonya Thomas Nathan’s record. The MLE facebook reports that Joey Chestnut (380 wontons in 8 minutes) defeated Takeru Kobayashi (370) in Singapore. I think this is Kobayahi’s first loss in Asia since the 2002 Food Battle Club. Juliet Lee (160 wontons) won the women’s division.

CPBiggestEater.com announces that Takeru Kobayashi, Joey Chestnut and Juliet Lee will compete in a shrimp wonton contest in Singapore on May 9. Qualifiers for the contest will take place on April 25 and May 2.
This will be the second Singaporean event for Kobayashi and Joey Chestnut; they also competed in a contest in July 2008.

Another contest from the 2001 Japanese Nathan’s qualifier is available on youtube. In this competition, Takeru Kobayashi eats 387 small bowls of noodles weighing 9.67 kg (21.3 pounds) to win. The noodle servers, who refill the bowl immediately after it is emptied, are almost as impressive as the eaters.
