To celebrate reopening after Hurricane Helene, Bear's Smokehouse in Asheville, NC will hold a Blue Moon Pie eating contest on March 29 awarding $500 to the winner. Jamie McDonald will compete and there will be a $250 bonus if the winner beats his time.
Bear's Smokehouse, the Connecticut restaurant founded by former competitive eater Jamie McDonald, is working with the World Central Kitchen to provide food to flood ravaged western North Carolina. They are still offering 2,000 hot meals a day.

“Dale’s Daniel Boone Burger” to be renamed?
Morganton.com has an article about Dale Boone finishing a 3+ pound burger at Doughboys Pizzeria Café in Morganton, NC. After completing the sandwich in under 30 minutes, Dale was allowed to name it “Dale’s Daniel Boone Burger”. The article says that a diner who finishes the burger in less than the 27 minutes it took Dale Boone will receive the right to rename it. The possibility of renaming the burger was not mentioned in the original article about it.

It will be interesting to see what extracurricular activities Dale Boone was involved in. Brian Seiken claims Boone and Loren “Bubba” Yarbrough almost came to blows in Memphis.
NBC4: Sonya Thomas to do NC Ribs
NBC4 (Washington DC local news) interviewed Sonya Thomas after Nathan’s, which is mentioned in the station’s blog. Sonya said that she intended to do Friday’s rib contest at Harrah’s casino in Cherokee, NC. Dale Boone is also expected to compete in that contest and interesting (in the Chinese curse meaning of the word) things tend to happen when those two compete. I don’t believe that Sonya has ever lost in VA, DC, MD, DE or NC.
