Patrick Michels wrote a blog entry for the Dallas Observer about his victory in a stuffed jalapeno eating contest at the Margarita Ranch.
Traders Village in Houston has a gallery of a contest where competitors ate the 72 ounce steak meal from the Big Texan Steak Ranch. Bud Caudill finished his meal in 28 minutes and Donice Krueger was the runner up with a time of just under 40 minutes. (The only faster female time for the 72 ounce steak meal I am aware of is 30 minutes for Carlene LeFevre).
IFOCE.com announces that registration opens today at 3pm for a new June 13 Nathan's qualifier at WinStar Casino in Thackerville, Oklahoma (about 75 miles north of Dallas/Fort Worth). There is also information about the two qualifiers for military personnel at Fort Bragg and Naval Air Station Oceana. (It does not say if the 20 hot dog minimum will be in effect for the military qualifiers)

Patrick Michels has a blog entry and gallery about the team oyster eating contest held at the Fish City Grill in Dallas.
Ken Hoffman has a column about Houston Astros promotions this seasons. Seats with all you can eat food will be available for $25 for all games this season. There is a reference to Sonya Thomas in the paragraph about singles night on may 22, which will also have unlimited food.

Steph vs. Food youtube channel started

(via Man vs. Food facebook) A youtube channel has been started documenting Stephanie Torres eating challenges. Videos of her completion of a 7 pound “Extreme Grizzly” burrito in 18 minutes from Marianito’s in San Antonio and a spicy “Four Horsemen Burger” from Chunky’s Burgers (also in San Antonio) in 3 minutes are available.

This gives Stephanie Torres four successful eating challenges since December 2009. She also finished the 72 ounce steak from the Big Texan and the B3 Burrito from the NASCAR Cafe.

The MLE La Costena jalapeno eating contest will take place on May 2 in San Antonio.
Hooters in Texas will hold a wing eating tournament. Each location will hold a qualifier over the next four Tuesdays starting tomorrow. Winners of the store championships on April 13 will compete in regional contests. The state champion will win a prize to the Hooters International Swimsuit Pageant.

Fort Worth diner starts 10+ lb. chicken fried steak challenge

Star Telegram reports that the Cowtown Diner in Fort Worth has started a chicken fried steak challenge consisting of 4 pounds of meat, 6 pounds of potatos and 10 slices of Texas toast. The meal is estimated to have 10,000 calories and is free to anyone who can finish it.

An 8 pound chicken fried steak challenge (with 4.5 pounds of meat) in Spokane had 850 unsuccessful attempts before 125 pound Mandy Brown completed it in 1992.
