The contest is now over. Joey Chestnut reportedly won with 45 kolaches.
The Houston Astros game has ended and the kolache eating contest has started.
Lauren MacQueen, who claimed she could defeat Pat Bertoletti and challenge Joey Chestnut, received a spot in the Houston kolache contest.

MySanAntonio has a preview of Saturdays’ Krystal Square Off qualifier which contains an interview with Sonya Thomas. update The Krystal Square Off blog also has an interview in which Sonya comments on sitting out last year’s finals:
Look, I’m a fast food manager and my staff and I take great pride and work long, rigorous hours in preparing orders for our customers, who love our food. I have seen Krystal burgers getting disrespected more and more every year to the point that I didn’t want to contribute to that image any more. A Krystal burger went into the water, but what came out was something that looked like it probably could have been eaten with a spoon. It made my heart so heavy to think about being a part of that. I know how I would feel if I saw people drowning the fast food items that I pour my blood, sweat and tears into preparing each and every day. There’s just something wrong with that. The least someone can do is eat our food the way it was intended to be eaten.
The Krystal Square Off blog announces that 2 minute pre-qualifiers will be held in San Antonio on Friday. The top 2 eaters will be able to compete in Saturday's qualifier at Six Flags Fiesta Texas.
The Corny Dog eating contest at the Texas State Fair is now accepting entries. The purse will be $850 and entrants will need to write a short essay on why they should receive a slot.
The Krystal Square Off blog announces that Sonya Thomas and Erik "The Red" Denmark will compete in the August 29 qualifier at Six Flags Fiesta in San Antonio. Hall Hunt will compete in the Jacksonville qualifier on Labor Day.

The website for the Texas Testosterone Festival reports that Whitney, Miss January in Bikini's Bar and Grill 2009 Calendar, was the runner up in yesterday's raw onion eating contest. Chris Cubas was the winner.
There will be a pizza eating contest at Emo's in Austin, TX on Sunday that will award $350 to the winner.
