Brian Seiken has put beautifulbrian.com on hiatus, apparently in response to an exchange with Mark Lyle. Hopefully Brian will resume writing in the near future, but if he decides to move on, let’s thank him for all the work he has put into his site over the years.

There are now 3 weeks to Wing Bowl 15. Philly.com reports that Wing Bowl 14 veterans “Black Death” & “Dr. Slob” successfully completed their stunts and will compete in Wing Bowl 15. “Boneyard” Joe won last night’s Wing Off with 63 wings in 10 minutes. “Liberty Belh” has a blog entry about his failed double cheeseburger stunt, but he received a slot in the in studio Wing Off on January 24.
DelawareOnline.com has an article about the Wing Bowl with two wing-eating techniques which ignores the fact that Delaware residents are not eligible to compete in the Wing Bowl.

Kobayashi has not competed in a Japanese eating contest since the demise of Food Battle Club in 2002 and says he has no intention to compete in any Japanese contest for the forseeable future. The new poll asks what you think is the main reason Kobayashi does not compete in his home country.

(from Deadspin) If an LA Dodger fan wants to attempt a hot dog eating challenge with stadium hot dogs, he or she can now do so without paying extra for each additional dog. The LA Times reports that the Los Angeles Dodgers will offer tickets in the right field pavilion that include all you can eat hot dogs and non alcoholic beverages. The tickets will cost $35 before the game and $40 on game day.

The Brooklyn Graphic reports that Brooklyn made “Bluelist: The Best in Travel 2007†published by Lonely Planet. Kobayashi at Nathan’s Hot Dog finals in Coney Island is listed as the most bizarre sight in Brooklyn by the guidebook.

Megamunch reports that Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub will unveil a cheeseburger weighing more than 110 pounds on February 24, reclaiming the title of the world’s largest commercially available cheeseburger from the Clinton Station Diner. Denny’s has invited the United Eaters of Pennsylvania to put togetether a group of approximately 12 eaters to attempt to consume the giant sandwich.

R Suzuki has a report on the first and second round qualifiers for the 2007 “Gluttonous Queen” contest. Contests were held in Hokkaido, Fukuoka, Shikoku and Nagoya. The winners of those events then competed for a spot in the finals. Sugawara won that contest and will appear in the finals that will be televised in the spring. Sugawara, a 43 year old from Morioko, came in second in a noodle contest in November to “The Artists” and had the best ever performance by a woman in the 21 year history of that event.

Erik “The Red” Denmark has a blog entry on his attempt at his NFL playoff hot dog eating challenge, which he performed at the Seahawks-Cowboys game after receiving a ticket. Erik was able to get around the $5+ stadium hot dog prices.

KGO TV has an article and video on the science of competitive eating in which a gastroenterologist offers his opinion on why competitive eaters can eat as much as they do. Bob Shoudt is interviewed and segments from the Philadelphia Nathan’s qualifier in which Sonya Thomas and Pat Philbin competed against Humble Bob is displayed. The upcoming National Geographic documentary is not mentioned.

The maker of the “Food Fighter” diet pill uses a picture of Kobayashi in their webpage for online sales. I am not sure if Kobayashi has given his permission to use his image in their advertising.
