The New York Times local news blog has an entry about the burger challenge offered by the Ottomanelli Brothers New York Grill, which is located near Central Park. If a 24 ounce burger, fries and a 20 ounce soda are consumed in under 20 minutes, the meal is free. The listed price is $12.95, which seems low. 71 year old former Knick Cal Ramsey was one diners to attempt the challenge.
A twitter update reports Joey Chestnut finished a Burritozilla from Iguana’s Taqueria in 3 minutes and 10 seconds on tonight’s episode of Man vs. Food

(Via Consumerist / KSL) Kaitlin Whipple’s blog reports she participated in a Wendy’s Frosty eating contest with her boyfriend Reed Harris, who had hidden an engagement ring in the dessert without his future fiancee’s knowledge. Kaitlin ate the Frosty so quickly that she did not realize she swallowed the ring. The newly engaged couple report that the ring has been successfully extracted.
The Press of Atlantic City reports that the top two finishers in the crawfish eating contest, Dave “US Male” Goldstein and Sonya “The Black Widow” Thomas both drank the brine water from the crawfish tray during the competition. The water weight was counted as crawfish mass in the once the post-contest weight was subtracted from the original value. The new poll asks if you think that this was a legitimate tactic.

At a celebration of Maslenitsa or Pancake week ‘the fastest pancake eater contest’ ended in tragedy in the Kaliningrad Region, when the winner of the competition died as he prepared to accept his award.
Boris Isaev, 46, a resident of the city of Chernyakhovsk, climbed onstage to take the prize, but suddenly fell to his knees choking. Foam came out of his mouth and a few moments after he fell breathless.

Last night’s episode of How’s Your News did not include footage of the main Acme Oyster eating contest won by Pat Bertoletti, but Scott “ScozzyBone” Zukowski, billed as the New Orleans oyster champ, did compete against one of the program’s reporters in a short oyster contest. A video clip of the segment can be viewed online.

A page about the McHotDog Classic has been set up on the website for McDonald’s of Japan. Kobayashi was to have made an appearance tomorrow to promote the new menu item which has since been cancelled.
The McHotDog Classic is being marketed as a breakfast food and will not be available after 10:30 am. (Perhaps Kobayashi did not think he was being disloyal to Nathan’s since their frankfurters are generally considered a lunch / dinner food. 😉 )
