Naader Reda has a three part series about the meals he ate with Stephanie Torres in the Las Vegas area (Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3) After Nevada, they attempted the following challenges in California: Cataldaldo’s 10 lb. team pizza challenge in Bakersfield, El Tortillon 9 lb. burrito in Fresno (only previous finisher Aubrey Koehn), Pho Kitchen challenge in Fresno and Big Mama’s & Papa’s 36 inch two person challenge (with two toppings).
(semi off-topic) A giant Pac-Man mosaic was created by AC Milan fans holding up colored cards in yesterday's Champions League match versus Barcelona. The mosaic was captioned "Mangiamoli!" ("Let's eat them!") and the ghost Pac-Man was chasing had Barcelona colors.
Stephanie Torres' total of 3.25 pounds of cheese fries in 8 minutes was claimed to be a national record. Takeru Kobayashi ate five pounds of cheese fries in five minutes in the first round of the US Open of Competitive Eating in 2005. (The only other US Open cheese fries result I could find was Carlene LeFevre's total of 3 lb. 3 oz).

Registration will open today at 4pm eastern for the first qualifier for the Hooters World Wing-Eating Championship to be held April 5 in Augusta, GA. The qualifier purse will be $1000 with the winner receiving $500 and a trip to the finals. The date and location for the finals and other nine qualifiers were not listed.

Sylvester's Burgers in Atascadero, California will hold a five pound burger eating contest on May 20. Entrants will need to qualify between April 1 and May 19.
ESPN New York reports that the Carnegie Deli has added the "Jetbow" sandwich to its menu in honor of Tim Tebow's trade to the New York Jets. The sandwich weighs 3.5 pounds and contains corned beef, pastrami, roast beef and American cheese and white bread. The Village Voice gave the new item a negative review. In 2010, the deli created a "Lebron MVP" sandwich to entice LeBron James to sign with the Knicks.
The new poll asks how many of the 13 Nathan's qualifiers in 2012 will have a female winner eating ten or more hot dogs. In 2011, seven women broke the 10 HDB threshold. Two of those qualifier winners (Stephanie Torres and Grace Lee) are not expected to compete in the 2012 qualifiers and Sonya Thomas might receive a bye as the defending female champion. Among IFOCE female rookies, Meredith Boxberger and Rebecca Oey appear capable of hitting double digits and Julie Dey ate 12 hot dogs in the 2009 Minnesota qualifier.
