Grub Street reports that Lui Ming Kui, runner-up in the Beijing Nathan's qualifier, has not secured a visa allowing him to travel to the United States and compete in the Nathan's finals. The article also has a quote from George Shea about Takeru Kobayashi's July 4 event: "If you're not competing in person, that's like running on your treadmill while you watch the Boston Marathon, then saying that you won."

The 2011 Nathan's finals will be televised live in the United Kingdom on ESPN America and Paul Page will return as announcer despite calling the defending champion "Joey Chitwood" on last year's broadcast.
Since the Nathan's finals started awarding cash prizes in 2007, all prizes have been claimed by Joey Chestnut, Pat Bertoletti, Takeru Kobayashi, Tim Janus, Bob Shoudt and Sonya Thomas. Sonya Thomas will not be competing in the men's division and Takeru Kobayashi will not compete at all, which will free up a space for a first-time prize winner in the men's division. The new poll asks who you think that will be.
The Associated Press reports that Takeru Kobayashi will do an eating exhibition at a rooftop bar in Manhattan located at 230 Fifth Avenue during the 2011 Nathan's finals on July 4. update Kobayashi's blog has a press release about the event which will be open to the public. Kobayashi will eat in sync with the televised Nathan's contest.
Sportsbook.com is accepting bets on Takeru Kobayashi in the upcoming Nathan's finals even though he will almost certainly not compete. (Kobayashi has two non-IFOCE contests planned for August.) Sportbook.com also has Nathan's proposition bets on Eric "Badlands" Booker and Crazy Legs Conti who have yet to qualify for the finals.
NBC News reports that Lu Mingkui, runner-up in Saturday's Nathan's qualifier in Beijing with a total of 13 hot dogs, will compete in the Nathan's finals on July 4. The article does not state if any Chinese women will compete in the finals. update CityWeekend.com.cn has a gallery listing Ding Qian (4 hot dogs) as the sole female competitor. We will see if she competes in the women's division on July 4.

The MLE twitter has a list of entrants in tomorrow's Nathan's qualifier at Concord Mills omitting Hall Hunt: "Wing Kong, Crazy Legs, Subich, Boykin, Grace Lee". (Brian Subich announced he would not compete yesterday.) Patrick Michels has a preview of Sunday's Nathan's qualifier at the Winstar Casino in Thackerville, OK. Probably the most interesting thing about the preview are quotes from George Shea saying television plans for the women's July 4 contest have not been finalized.
