Angelo Cataldi’s latest blog entry has a paragraph about the Wing Bowl:
Wing Bowl 16 will be the best we’ve ever had. I’m already worried about Wing Bowl 17 because there’s no way to follow this one up. We have the world champion eater (Joey Chestnut) facing, for the first time, a true Philadelphia legend (El Wingador). We’ve got a wild group of challengers, all of whom are determined to win huge prizes for the best entourages. And, of course, we’ve got more hot women than we know what to do with. Is there anything better than having too many hot women?
If a deal with IFOCE and WIP has been finalized, it is surprising that no announcement has been made on one of the IFOCE websites.

SonyaTheBlackWidow.com has two new updates to start the new year. Sonya has comments on various IFOCE eaters. She also has a page on her personal history in the Wing Bowl which concludes with the announcement that she will probably skip the upcoming Wing Bowl. If Sonya passes on Wing Bowl 16 and avoids contests which allow dunking, her next competition will not occur until a non-dunking contest appears on the IFOCE schedule.

The upcoming Wing Bowl will have a different prize structure than Wing Bowl 15:
Wing Bowl 16 prizes
Overall winner: Toyota Tundra
First round winner: Harley Davidson motorcycle
Best Entourage: trip for 10 to warm weather location and home theater system including 73 inch TV
Top Wingette: Toyota Scion
Wing Bowl 15 prizes
Overall Winner: Suzuki Grand Vitara
Top Local Finisher: Suzuki SX4
2nd place: 4 night trip to Cancun
3rd place: medallion
Top Wingette: four night vacation to either Cancun or Punta Cana
It is possible that Wing Bowl 16 will also award prizes for 2nd/3rd place. The official rules would list all prizes, but there is no link for “Official Rules for Wing Bowl 16” on WIP’s Wing Bowl 16 page.

A “Wing Tut” is listed as the winner of the first Wing Off qualifier. A picture of the eater billing himself as “Wing Tut” appears on the Wing Bowl 16 page on 610wip.com, and it does not appear to be the Pittsburgh area Wing Tut who sometimes comments on this site.

The following results were announced after the first fourteen minutes of this year’s Wing Bowl:
1. Gentleman Jerry, 112 wings
2. Beast from the Northeast, 91
3. Dave “US Male” Goldstein, 89
4. Sonya Thomas, 84
5. Pat Bertoletti, 83
6. Damaging Doug, 81
7. Bulldog, 78
8. Curly von Burly, 77
9. Joey Chestnut, 75
10. Dr. WingLove, 73
? Micah “Wing Kong” Collins
? Rich LeFevre
? Eric “Steakbellie” Livingston
? Bob Shoudt
? Chip Simpson
Seven local eaters were reported as having defeated 3 top 8 IFOCE members (Bob Shoudt, Rich LeFevre, Chip Simpson), but Dave “US Male” Goldstein is the only local finishing in the top 10 who entered an IFOCE or AICE contest following the Wing Bowl.
If “Gentleman” Jerry can repeat the 49% advantage he had over Joey Chestnut in other contests lasting less than 14 minutes, that would correspond to him eating 98.5 hot dogs or 154 Krystals.

The media-door supplicants aren’t all pretenders. Some are even participants, like Mr. IFOCE himself, George Shea, his neatly slicked hair and sharp suit putting the Philly mooks to shame. Butter champ Don Lerman is here, too. I’m standing right next to him. I know it’s Don Lerman because it says so on his wool hat.

Simmons is warming to the task by eating 10-15 pounds of food a day, wings three times a week. He feels he balances the scales by working out on a regular basis and drinking three gallons of water daily. He currently weighs 332.
