A press release announces that ESPN has extended its agreement with Nathan's Famous to televise its hot dog eating contest until 2024.

2014 Nathan’s finals live on ESPNews

The July 4 schedule for ESPNews shows that the Nathan’s hot dog eating contest will be shown live on that channel starting at noon. Only the men’s contest will be televised; ESPNews will show SportsCenter at 11:30. There will be three tape-delayed showings of the contest on ESPN2 on July 4, 5 and 6 and ESPN Classic will show 6 contests from previous years on July 4. The main ESPN channel has no listings of the 2014 Nathan’s contest, this would make it the first year since 2003 it was not televised on that channel.

The "Hungry" competitive eating documentary by Jeff Cerulli and Barry Rothbart was released on internet streaming services today. The film can be downloaded on iTunes for $12.99. update June 25 Kobayashi has links where the movie can be rented on amazon and vudu.

The "Battle of the Big Eaters! World Championships" recorded last month in New York City will be televised on TV Tokyo this weekend. A team of Molly Schuyler, Dave Brunelli, Tom Gilbert and Stephanie Torres will face off against a Japanese quartet consisting of Takuya Yakamoto, Ayari Sato, Tomoko Miyake and Hitomi Sato. The Daily Herald reports Taco in a Bag will appear on NBC's First Look following the June 21/22 episode of Saturday Night Live. Hostess Audrina Partrige will undergo a competitive eating "boot camp" under the tutelage of Pat Bertoletti and Tim Brown. The West Dundee, IL restaurant will also appear on the July 27 episode of Chicago's Best on WGN.
The ESPN schedule for July 4 now lists live coverage of the men's & women's Nathan's finals on ESPN3. Coverage of the women's contest will begin at 11:15 am Eastern. ESPN2 will show the men's contest tape delayed at 2 pm.

The Atlantic has a report on last month's Eastern Shore Wing War asking the question "Is Competitive Eating a Sport?" containing quotes from Crazy Legs Conti, Juliet Lee, "Wild" Bill Myers and Eric "Badlands" Booker. Jason Bernstein of ESPN is also interviewed; the decline of competitive eating ratings and coverage on that network is not mentioned.
Former Man vs. Food will play on the "Rest of the World" team in Soccer Aid, a charity game with teams of former players and celebrities to benefit UNICEF that will be played Sunday in Manchester. The manager of that side will be Jose Mourinho of Chelsea (Adam Richman might be the first American to be coached by "The Special One"). In the July 2014 UK issue of Cosmopolitan, Richman poses nude with a soccer ball strategically placed to exhibit a 70 pound weight loss.
