  • 42: Number of people who finished the burrito in under 90 minutes
  • Over 4,000: Number of people purchasing the burrito (according to a yelp comment)
  • 6 minutes: Record finishing time by Joey Chestnut
  • Other announced sub 20 minute times: Ben Monson 12 minutes, Matt Stonie 15 minutes, Shawn Cochran 19 minutes
  • 38 minutes: Announced Women’s record by Stephanie Torres (This forum thread says her women’s record was broken in January, but does not give the name or time.)
  • 2: Most times finishing burrito by Aubrey (might be other unpublicized multiple finishers)
  • 3+: Number of female finishers
  • May 1, 2011: date of 42nd and final completion by Mark from California

Some thoughts before the qualifier:

  • Sonya Thomas Nathan’s debut was 18 hot dogs in 12 minutes with no previous eating contests. Juliet Lee ate 28 in 12 minutes after competing in the IFOCE for almost a year.
  • Unresolved questions about the women’s division: Will Sonya Thomas receive a bye since she is the women’s record holder | Will there be a women’s wild card? (if two women exceed 10 hot dogs at one qualifier)
  • The differential between the men’s and women’s Nathan’s prizes has been receiving some critical media attention: Time | Eater.com | Jezebel

In the latest MLE podcast, Lea Cooper of the NY NY Casino in Las Vegas lists some entrants in Saturday's Nathan's qualifier: Stephanie Torres (making her MLE debut), Adrian Morgan, Sean Gordon and his father, Ron Koch, Dan Allard, Jason Scarincio and former beauty queen Christine Kitchen-Masters (sp?).
