Youtube has an interview Joey Chestnut did on 107.7 FM “The Bone” Thursday to promote the macaroni & cheese contest at the San Jose Stealth game today: Part 1 | Part 2. Joey said he ate 47 slices of pizza in the Famous Famiglia contest (it was actually 45), that Pat Bertoletti beats him 2 times a year and that matzo balls were his least favourite contest food.
(From Man vs Food facebook) Digital City has a list of ten steak eating challenges located throughout the United States which concludes with the new challenge at Steak & Main in Maryland, which requires diners to eat five different types of steaks which total 74 ounces.
The blog for Atlantic City Weekly has information about the competitors in next Tuesday’s Showboat Mardi Gras Casino World Crawfish Eating Championship:
Contest will feature eater Tim “Eater X†Janus, the tamale and burrito eating champion of the world and the sweet corn champion Crazy Legs Conti. Also competing are the top two female competitive eaters Juliet Lee and Sonya “The Black Widow†Thomas. Philly-area fan favorites Eric “Steakbellie†Livingston and Micah “Wing Kong†Collins will also compete.
The prize breakdown is available on the IFOCE.com contest page:
1st – $1,500 2nd – $500 3rd – $250 4th – $150 5th – $100
A picture of a list of burger challenges offered by the Clinton Station Diner can be viewed on flickr. $5,000 will be awarded to a team of 10 diners that can finish the “8th Wonder” burger (listed at 105 pounds) in an hour or less.
Purses for the crawfish ($2,500) and corned beef ($10,000) contests are now available. Registration for the corned beef contest is now closed after opening earlier today. Hall Hunt is apparently one of the corned beef entrants.

(from bodybuilding.com forum) Reuters has an article about Salim Haini of Algeria who claims to have eaten 1,500 eggs in under three hours. Other reported feasts include a 35 kg (77 lbs) lamb roast and 50 kg (110 lbs) of lettuce.
Haini’s abilities are not limited to eating organic items. A video of his consumption of nails, glass and a fluorescent light bulb are available.
Haini hopes to be listed by the Guinness Book of World Records even though it has stopped listing eating records. Should he be included, it might not be in a positive manner. The 1988 Guinness edition called Michael Lotito’s consumption of a bicycle as “the ultimate in stupidity”
LA Times blog entry about the recording of the episode
Hall Hunt attended Saturday’s Tampa Bay Rays Fan Festival where Joey Chestnut signed autographs and has a blog entry with several pictures of that event.
Hall also has a blog entry about “The World’s Biggest Indoor Corndog Party”, an eating contest held at a radio station between competitors from the Universities of Florida, Georgia and Alabama. The U of Florida competitor did not show up and Hall was apparently not allowed to substitute.
Angelo Cataldi’s most recent blog entry reports that the return of IFOCE eaters to the Wing Bowl in 2010 is not a certainty:
The big question now is whether to open the event back up to the professional eaters next year. I may not have to make that decision since my contract runs out before the next Wing Bowl, but my inclination right now is to keep them out. The pros contribute very little to the actual event. They rarely bother to prepare a procession, they have little or no personality, and they detract from the original intent of Wing Bowl, which is to turn an average Joe into Rocky Balboa for a day. Any input from the listeners and Wing Bowl patrons is welcome here.
A news video of yesterday’s musubi eating qualifier in San Diego reports that Justin Wu won a trip to Hawaii by eating 8.5 musubis in 5 minutes. Brian Bruggeman was the runner-up.
