nj.com has a profile of Michael “Liberty” Belh, who will compete in Wing Bowl 15. Belh played on the Rutgers football team. According to the roster on his myspace blog, Belh is the second lightest non-IFOCE entrant at 240 pounds.
The article also says that Bill “El Wingador” Simmons is being pressured to enter Wing Bowl 15.

There will be another megaburger event in Pennsylvania for eaters who cannot make it to the unveiling of Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub’s 100+ pound burger on February 24. The Wrightsville Inn in York will have a King Kong burger eating contest for teams of 5 on February 17. The King Kong burger weighs 22 pounds and was inspired by Denny’s giant sandwiches. The team entrance fee is $104 and proceeds will go to the Children’s Home of York.
The weekly Wing Bowl column at Philly.com reports that Bill “El Wingador” Simmons’ restaurant has opened and is doing enough business for El Wingador to quit his truck driving job to focus on the restaurant and his wing sauce. The column also says that Hank “The Tank” Goldey admits to stealing the Wing Bowl throne from El Wingador.
The pain of the Seattle Seahawks’ loss to the the Chicago Bears last weekend has subsided enough for Erik Denmark to write about the hot dog challenge he did during the game.
With the penalty in the Saturday’s pretzel contest, Sonya Thomas has received three deductions in the past six months which have cost her finishing positions & prize money.

There will be a haggis eating contest at San Francisco University on Thursday to celebrate the Chinese New Year. An attempt will be made to set the record for the largest number of people eating haggis simultaneously. The contest was instituted to honor both SFU’s Scottish traditions and the university’s large Asian population.

The page for the pretzel eating contest on pretzeltwister.com says that the mini pretzel contest between Tim Janus and Seaver Miller will not be broadcast until sometime in February.
First Bo Bice enters an eating contest at the Texas State Fair, and now another of the Whaler’s enemies has entered a (fictional) eating contest. The Duke student newspaper has a story about members of the Duke basketball team competing in an eating contest at McDonald’s.

The Blinq blog at philly.com reports that a trivia contest has been scheduled for the same weekend at the Wing Bowl. The organizer of that contest describes his objectives:
“This is about more than making Quizzo sexy,” he writes by e-mail. “It’s about making Philadelphia sexy.” The 215 unsexiness, he offers, is “a stereotype perpetuated by the Neanderthal eating contest that takes place every year. Trashy has had it too good in this town for too long. On February 3rd, sexy fights back.

I was a manager of the UF women’s soccer team, and the coach, Becky Burleigh, liked to take us out to Dragonfly Sushi & Sake Co. for dinner. When she heard they were having a competition, she kind of challenged me to do it. I did really well, but couldn’t go to the finals because I was traveling with the team for the SEC Tournament.
The points standings following the pretzel contest have been posted at competititveeating.net. Rookie Pat Bruss finished an impressive 4th place. All competitors are listed, including those who finished pointless.
